Yea I have heard of that guy and the only people that were dung enough to use those words out loud were from Oklahoma, Iowa and Kansas. That you use the term is pretty sad if you are from anywhere else because they don't know any better
We are not taking a habitual user of pot (aka guaranteed suspension at some point--any questions, see Josh Gordon) with a 6 pick, so it is either Beasley or one of the wideouts.
Yes i watched..and compared to beasley he just doesn't look as fast when he's not planted. When planted yes he looks good off the snap but we have Sheldon right there.
True.. I know Fowler is a different type of beast but i don't see him dropping passed JAX. Maybe Beasley just looks longer to me because he's thin
With this being the first draft pick of yhe new regime, I see them staying away from Mariota and Gregory. Obviously no player is a sure thing, but those two are the riskiest. You draft a QB at 6 and he doesn't pan out you probably won't get a chance to draft another QB. And with Gregory's pot use and porpoor judgment you stay away, which sucks because he was my favorite OLB prospect.
Unless a GM drafts a QB in the third round or lower, he probably won't get another chance if he whiffs on any QB taken in the 1st or 2nd round. If he fails to draft a QB for fear of failure, he's probably a goner as well.
I've said this earlier, now that Gregory made a stupid ass decision before the most important event coming up in his life, he's out of top 10 consideration. It's just not about smoking pot, which most of society believes it isn't too much of a big deal, it's his poor judgement knowing he will be tested. Also, Beasley and Ray are overvalued and shouldn't be in the Jet's top 6 BPA board. IMO, the Jets BPA Board: Williams Winston Fowler Mariota Cooper White
To me, more then simply failing the test at the combine is his admission that he is addicted to smoking pot. Again, I think the occasional puffing is not the end of the world but this kid has built up a bad habit that will be the last thing I want deal with the Jets again. I don't want headcases like this...The media is going to harp on this and I honestly rather not deal with that. I am perfectly good with Kevin White at #6
It's a lack of self control and maturity. Many people have smoked pot, but they realize when it's time to grow up and look for employment they give it up, because most jobs of any significance make you take a piss test.
Probably a good two thirds of the NBA smokes out regularly and it's been legalized or made medicinal in a fifth of the country and yet Mary Jane is on par with cocaine and steroids and HGH in the NFL. I have not smoked a bowl in probably two years but when I did I don't think that my employer would have garnished my wages they would have just fired me, and I would have gotten another job in the same field for the same pay, it would not have followed me everywhere I went The idea that put should ruin someone's life is just as stupid when talking about police stiff as it is talking about the NFL. Alcohol is hundreds of times more harmful and people brush that argument off, like idiots
Ideally, trade back and get Randy Gregory. I think Gregory will fall for failing the drug test...especially since the whole league saw what has unfolded with Josh Gordon. However, I have to believe he won't be as dumb, and will find a way to not do drugs in order to earn millions of dollars in a dream job.
Here are my thoughts. Look at our current defensive line. Anyone OLB you draft at 6, if they were to go that route, is going to have no choice but to excel. You can put Ellen Degeneres and she'll excel behind that line. Done.
That's not the issue here. It was against the law where he did it. And against NFL drug policy. If he's so much for pot legalization donate money for the cause. NFL drug policies don't parallel the law. Banned substances even with a prescription are not always against the law. It shows a total lack of discipline. And a willingness to break the law because it's still illegal in most places.
Seems like Gregory was pretty much the consensus top pass rusher before his failed drug test. So the question becomes, is he worth the risk at #6? Randy Moss and Warren Sapp come to mind as guys who slipped in past years because of failed tests but still became superstars. I'd say he's worth the risk because of the huge impact he could have on our D.
Don't forget pain / prescription pills. Prob the worst out of them all. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...lls-post-nfl-struggles-in-new-hbo-real-sports
How long before the NFL eliminates marijuana from their drug testing protocol? What I mean is how long before owners who hate missing out on a huge talent vote to eliminate marijuana testing all together, especially now that it's becoming more and more legal. 1yr? 3yr? Does this possibility make drafting a pot head 'today' more acceptable?
I don't think it's going to be dropped until pot is more widely accepted in society as being ok. And that could take another generation. I honestly never thought it would even go this far: legalized in several states. I hope the next step is decriminalizing it everywhere--people in some localities can still go to jail for possession. I think the only way it might be removed as a banned substance in the NFL in the near future are law suits. Players or the Players Association could sue for a player disciplined by the NFL.
