I would love nothing better than trading down in the first and getting an OT and an OG. It will put the QB we pick in next years 1st round in a much, much better position than if we draft MM, sit him for a year, then put him up behind a rookie LT and whatever we do with the guard positions.
If Mariota is gone at #6 and someone wants to move up, we should trade the pick. The main needs for the Jets are QB, Pass rusher OLB, Oline and RB. We can cover all of these with a trade down and extra picks. Pick your QB in round 3, Petty or Grayson.
I disagree. It's certainly possible to trade down and still address BPA/needs, but it depends upon what the Jets' main goal or desire is in the draft. They may not care. They may go strictly BPA. Then again, they may have certain goals or positions that they think must be addressed in the draft like OLB, LT, RB, Blocking TE, ILB, WR and QB just to name the main needs. If their #1 priority is getting a young stud pass rusher, then they may have 1-2 guys that they think they have to have, and if they trade down believe those guys will be gone. In that case, they should stay put and take the OLB they want. If they think they can get another OLB that they really like and and will help the team after trading down, then great, by all means trade down. As far as QB, it isn't just a matter of taking "a" QB. It has to be the right QB, one with real potential. As far as I'm concerned, there are only 3 QBs on whom it is worth using a draft pick: Winston, Mariota and Petty. I wouldn't touch Grayson, Hundley or any of the others with a draft pick unless one of them fell to the 7th round, and then I might take a flyer on him.
Has anybody yet said their is no tackle, left or right, or other offensive lineman worth the #6 pick in this draft?
well acquiring and spending huge money on 30 year old players doesn't seem like a rebuilding project...
