"The Eagles are working to trade guard Evan Mathis, a source tells Ian Rapoport of NFL Network (via Twitter). Dealing Mathis would be just the latest move in what has been a wild offseason for the Eagles. Finding a marker for Mathis shouldn’t be too difficult considering his performance last season. Even though he only saw time in nine games, Mathis’ overall score of 25.8 (per Pro Football Focus, subscription required) ranked him as the second-best offensive guard in the NFL last season. The year prior, Mathis graded out as the very best guard in the NFL. Mathis’ deal calls for him to earn a $5.5MM base with $1MM prorated in 2015, good for a total of $6.5MM. With an extra $500K in his base salary in 2016, that number jumps slightly to $7MM. Mathis is 33, but guards tend to age a little bit better than most other positions." http://www.profootballrumors.com/eagles-working-trade-evan-mathis/#ETOhyfu3WFsUGtpT.99
I'm a little intrigued by this one. Rated the best guard in the NFL last year. Would likely instantly solve our offensive line problems
Adam Beasley@AdamHBeasley 2m2 minutes ago NEWS: The Dolphins are one of the teams that have contact the Eagles about Evan Mathis. Tannenbaum is not messing around.
This would be a nice signing and I think the cap hit is affordable. That said we have to be wary of taking more aging talent esp after dumping all that money into two older players (Revis, Cro). My main issue is im not sure we have the picks to give at this point. Don't wanna Tanny this one up and trade away half our draft by moving for older expensive players every year.
If I were the Jets i'd try and get involved in this (although I dont know his contract situation/what the Eagles are looking for), our interior offensive line play has been pretty bad the last 2 years. This guy is one of the best guards in the league.
I'm surprised it's not getting more attention on here. This would allow us more versatility in the draft
Package Mathis into the trade down from 6 to 20, should that come to pass. He would replace Foles in the deal, but I'm sure they'd have to change up some of the other picks involved.
I just hope the pats don't get him. He's old but still plays at a high level and just a few months ago that was a pro bowl level guard. Sounds like a pats move.
Wow! He might be cut if he can't be traded. I can't belive this isn't getting more attention for us. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/24/eagles-may-cut-evan-mathis-if-they-cant-trade-him/
