Am I alone in recognizing that the Jets were the victim of more than one missed/blown call? What is with these guys? The NFL needs to grab a hold of these officials. They already screwed a team in the SB what else do they need to do? Chris Baker no first down, are you kidding me? The ball was stretched out past the 1st down marker. How they came up with that spot and then proceded to blow the review should be looked upon by the league. We not only lost a TO but we also had to punt the ball away. 2 missed facemasks on 1 play. Leon Washington grabbed by Jason Taylor and spun around by facemask and another phin player grabs Leon by the facemask and no call. Yet Rashad Moore brushes it and the flags come out. Also another player was tagged with a facemask which was questionble at best. Dolphins get a redueax on 3rd and 1 because they weren't set!!! I thought that was the purpose of the no huddle offense. How is it Crybaby Manning can run an entire game with a no huddle yet we go to it 1 play and the Phins get a do-over after they jumped offsides!!! No PI on J Mac, granted it my have not been PI but it was similar to hte play in which Miller was called for a hold except J macs feet got tangled and Hagan fell to the ground. We stunk the place up in the 4th Q and bad officiating is no excuse but when it's there it needs to be called out.
We definitely were screwed by the refs on several plays. McCareins was tripped downfield on one play. The officials missed a bunch of facemasks that they let Miami get away with.
The problem w/ these refs is that they are inconsistent. Rich Eisen interviewed the VP of officaiting today on the NFL Network pregame show. He asked the guy aout the two calls last week against the Jets. He totally blew off the Vilma play (totally skirted the issue) and went on to say that the call on Barton was correct because he tackled Leftwich with his head down. He said that even though he hit the QB in the shoulder pads he still hit him w/ the crown of his helmet. Rich Eisen just laughed and said that the refs are being way to cautious.....The VP said that the refs have been told to be very cautious and to error on the safe side to keep the QB's from getting hurt. I say Bullshit. Why don't we just wrap the QB up in bubblewrap....... If your going to throw a flag...be consistent and call it both ways....that's all I ask.
In other words, the message from the NFL is that the refs will get less heat from the league office if they call anything close in favor of the QB than they will if they cut defense players some slack. I say BS as well. The VP should of explained the Vilma call. The only problem was that he couldn't, so he just dodged the question. What an a-hole. TBTF
There was also two hits on Chad well after he threw the ball and no flag was thrown on either one. The two face masks that weren't called were so obvious it wasn't even funny.
I agree with the Baker and the two facemasks plays. As far as the no huddle thing I had turned away for a moment, so I can't comment until I rewatch the game. McCareins was not interfered with on that 3rd down play late in the game. That was incidental contact.
The only play I really had a problem with was one where Taylor popped Penny after the ball was thrown. He didn't even make contact with Chad until the ball was out of his hand, and it would have been obvious to him, since Chad's forearm hit Taylor's shoulder after release. Yet he still pounded Chad into the turf, and no flag, with a ref standing RIGHT THERE. The Baker play was too close to call. Hell, it looked like his left hand hit the sideline before the ball crossed the 1st down marker anyway. Most of the calls were too close, and that's just fine the way they went. (The JMac play was not a trip, he tripped over the back of his cover man's feet, pretty damn sad.)
There were 2 hits on Chad this week that were both much worse than the hits we got flagged on for unnecessary roughness on last week against Leftwich.
The facemasks I agree. The tripping I don't. He was tripped, yes. However, that is not pass interference. It's unintentional tripping, and unfortunately allowed as long as the defender is facing (or looking at) the ball (which he was) and not playing off the receiver. As long as the defender is making a play for the ball and not the receiver, there is no call. That was legit. Again though, the facemasks pissed me off.
It was a joke out there today, I can take bad calls if they are called consistently against both teams but the dolphins got the benfit today and that is frustrating but luckily it didn't affect the outcome.
On the last 2 drives, there was also some obvious holding... I saw DR get turned around, and the OL was still holding onto his Jersey, and they didn't call it.
In general, the officiating sucks in every NFL game. My favorite call is the play where the QB gets sacked on an all out blitz, never has time to even see a receiver and there is a flag for illegal contact.
