please. Lewis did not struggle taking on lineman.. he was excellent against the run, difficult to block, hit like a truck, was effective in coverage, and could blitz. he's the quintessential 3-4 ILB.
if Lewis had a weakness it was that. Why do you think they invested so heavily in big DL to take the pressure off him and why he had a renaissance when they drafted Ngata. It's not really a criticism though of Lewis because every LB struggles to consistently take on OL, it's a mismatch really. But if you want to criticize Alonzo for that, so be it I guess. It's unfair though, especially in today's game. A more appropriate criticism of Alonzo's play would be that he has a tendency to over run plays. At least towards the end of his rookie year he had a slight downturn in play because teams got keen to that and ran a lot of counters at him and he was too aggressive and took some poor angles. That's why he lost out in DROY to Richardson, mainly his play down the stretch. With him being out last year we didn't get to see if that's a real problem or if it was just a learning experience for the rookie. But Philly doesn't want him because of run stopping anyway. They want him because he showed ELITE talent as a LB in pass coverage. With the league becoming a passing league more and more, it's going to make LBs like him truly valuable. If he stays healthy he will have a great career in Philly IMO.
all ILB's are dependent on their Dline occupying blockers to a degree. if no one on the Dline is commanding a double team, you have a lineman with a free path to the ILB, which i agree is a mismatch. that is what was going on in Balt, and the reason Lewis was thrilled as shit when they got Ngata. through all that tho, he still was holding his own against the run. the extra beef on the line just freed him up to do more things like penetrate the backfield....sacks, tackles for loss, etc.. I'm really not trying to criticize Alonzo. i think he's a good player. just happen to think he's a better fit manning the middle of a 4-3. he's very rangy, and good in coverage as you point out. in a 3-4, the ILB's have to stop the run first tho. To Philly's credit, they do have a beefy Dline, play a two gap, and may look to protect Alonzo from free blockers. i'd just need to see him be stout at the point of attack, and make a statement against the run, before i'd endorse that as a good scheme fit for them.
New deal for Shady that will apparently be better for both sides. Shady will get more money, Bills will do it in a way that effects the cap less.
They took his money and made it an upfront signing bonus you retard. It's not his salary. His cap hit (the only thing that matters) is now reduced from $12 million to $5.5 million. That's called smart.
Exactly.........after this season his contract is $6 mill per season which is $1.5 more then what the Ingram is getting paid.
With the restructuring of his contract we're in position to re-sign Hughes and get a TE & OG in free agency.
HERE IS THE FULL DEAL From agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus, here’s the full deal. McCoy gets a $13.125 million signing bonus and a $2.625 million salary for 2015. Coupled with a $250,000 workout bonus, that’s $16 million in year one. Next year, McCoy gets a $4.8 million salary and a $250,000 workout bonus. In 2017, the salary moves to $6 million, with a $250,000 workout bonus. In 2018, the salary becomes $6.075 million, with the same workout bonus. In 2019, the salary is $6.175 million, with the same workout bonus. Notice that the salaries don’t spike on the back end. That increases the likelihood of McCoy finishing the full five years. Of the $40.05 million contract, $26.55 million is guaranteed. $18.25 million is fully guaranteed at signing; that comes from the signing bonus, the 2015 salary, and $2.5 million of the 2016 salary. The rest of the total $4.8 million salary becomes fully guaranteed on the first day of the 2016 league year.
I doubt he's on the roster in '17 when that contract spikes to $6m per... Buffalo will be all in this year and next and his contract is fine for that stretch but in 17 when he is worn down and they need cap space they will get out of that deal.
This was a good trade for both sides tbh. I don't think anyone has the advantage over the other. Spiller was be leaving tho.
It doesn't spike at the end but it also doesn't load everything up front with nothing his last 2 years so the likelyhood of a holdout because he's only "making" $1 mill a year for his last 2 years so he's "underpaid" like we saw from Thomas Jones. He's got real money there to play for. That's a good deal. _
