I'm still not sure about this pick . I challange anyone that is excited about this guy to use the isolate function on direct TV to watch Bricks performance [non performance] against the Phins.

He got absolutely anihilated on each and every play. Run over, run through, run around... and not just by J Taylor. On one play Tillman (CB) pushed right through him, hid body twisted ackwardly and I though he would crack.

He needs to put on 35 pounds or more. Then will see.

Far from excited about this guy.

I love the direction of our team though.

2007 what do we need more?

Fat NT or Pass Rushing DE ?

So far, I still hate this pick. Was against it then, and still against it now. I feel like Adrian Jones would be doing just as good as D'Brick is now.

well you have to wait at least a year to see how O-linemen develop, plenty in nfl history have looked bad the first year only to rebound with solid careers. D-brick is owed at least this season and some of next, and I don't think he's looked that bad. pennington wasn't mauled today or anything.

once he puts on more beef he should become a very solid left tackle its just all about patience.

I agree, he's horrible right now. Taylor literally threw him to the ground numerous times. Time will tell if he's worth the pick

for a rookie he has more than held up his end. Penny is still our qb and its week 7 where as last year he was gone by the second game of the season because of adrian jones. Hes been pretty good pass blocking and i think everytime leon washington steps on the field he makes the entire o-line look that much better, including anthony clement

Dude, hes faced Jason Taylor, Mathis/Freeney, The Jax DT Duo, and Richard Seymour.

Give the kid a break, hes faced arguably the toughest guys he will have all season(Excluding Tommy Harris of CHI).

I don't think Brick is ready for the top-flight pass rushers yet but I think he'll come around with time.

I was not a fan of him when he was picked but I think he's done fairly well so far. Of course, he'll have to keep improving but he has my support.

    NT or pass-rushing DE?

We need both desperately along with some more beef for the OL....

I don't see why anyone is complaining about this pick. So far, Pennington has been very well protected in the passing game. Even in the Jax game last week he had time to throw. Most of those sacks were coverage sacks. Like someone mentioned above he has faced Seymour, Freeney, and Taylor in that order. These DE's are all in the top 5 in the league at rushing the passer.
    Seymour: 1 sack
    Freeney: 0 sacks
    Taylor: 1 sack
For a rookie T these are three very tough tasks and he accomplished them nicely. Our run game hasn't been good but I wouldn't put that on D'Brick. Sure, he may be part of the problem but so are the small G's next to him. Don't trash D'Brick yet... he hasn't earned that.

How many sacks had Brick given up? One?

Adrian Jones was a revolving door last year. He gave up a ton of sacks. He was awful. If you can't see a difference then you aren't watching. Jones couldn't even beat out Clements for the RT spot?

He try to chop block taylor one play which wasnt to smart, and then he missed his assignment on a running play, but besides that there has been times when it seems pennington has all the time in the world.

At one point Larry Allen was the Best O-lineman in football. In his rookie year, he went through some growing pains.

Pretty damn good job so far for a rookie LT if you ask me. How soon we forget how Taylor used to eat Fabini's lunch twice a year. He'll be fine-just needs to continue to improve and put on a bit more weight this offseason.

    Terrible thread.

D'Brick isn't getting a pass right now. He's a rookie LT that has given up what, 1 sack through 6 games? That's better than Fabini over the past couple of years. I'm sorry, but if you can't see the talent on this dude (in terms of pass blocking) then you know absolutely nothing about football. He hasn't been called the best LT prospect to come out of college for the past 15 years or whatever they said for no reason...

    Get it together, boys.

Watch the freeking tape!!! He got owned on every play!!

Stop quoting me satistics, how many sacks he's given up blah blah blah.

Isolate and watch him on each play.

Maybe 2 or 2 instances in the whole gm did he actually lay a proper block.
(albeit in pass coverage and while being pushed into the QB)

I love the Jets. I wish the Brick showed promise. However he's absolutely horrible right now.

Pennington isn't getting sacked that much since there are using one step drops and quick swings hitches.

He throws with time in running situatiuons, most times using the PA fake.

Please do not respond in defense of Brick until you watch the film.

He's been fine this year imo.

He's faced some elite pass rushers, and while he hasn't completely shut them down, he's done a good job. I only remember one sack he's given up this year. He hasn't done a good job run blocking, but we knew that was a weakness coming in. I think once he gets a little stronger and puts on more weight he'll get better in that regard.

But for now, for a rookie, he's been good.

Ferguson is doing just fine considering he is a rookie. With some added weight he should be a formidable left tackle down the road.

For the Ferguson detractors- you must recognize that left tackle is an extremely important position.

The most important players are the left tackle and the quarterback.

Next in line is the RDE or ROLB (depending upon whether the team operates from a 4-3 or 3-4 defense). The Jets don't have a good one at that spot. They'll have to get one in April's draft.

I believe the most important aspect of the NFL game today is the 4th quarter pass rush. Hence, why the LT, QB, and RDE/ROLB are vastly important players. The Jets had no 4th quarter pass rush today and that allowed Miami to get back into the game.

How about you explain to me what you expected out of him against pass rushers like Seymour, Freeney, and Taylor. Do you realize that these are three of the best. Actually they all are probably top 5 pass rushers. I'm curious, what were your expectations against them. His job in the pass protection is to give Pennington time and he has accomplished that.
