Mangini and Shotty lucked out today. The Jets had a 3 turnover advantage and field position all day and almost lost this game because of questionable play calling. The play calling in the first half was atrocious. Two turnovers and field position for the entire half and the Jets were more conservative than a Herm Edwards team. The only pass thrown downfield all half was the first pass of the game. The Jets threw so many swing passes and passes behind the line of scrimmage it was sickening. And why does Barlow even get to play. And why don't the Jets us the middle of the field at all? Every pass today was in the flat or to the sideline. Then the icing on the cake was the 3rd and two call with 2 1/2 minutes to go in the game. It was pitiful and ridiculous. Why didn't the Jets run the ball? Why not put Smith in at QB and force the defense to guard against another option? If the Jets get a first down, the game is over. The defense wasn't stopping anything. Even if a run is stopped, your force Miami to burn a TO. What does Shotty call? A 30 yard pass to McCareins, who can't catch a cold this year!!! And to top it off , McCareins falls down. Can someone explain this call to me???? If I were to make of list of plays and players to get the ball in this situation, McCareins is about 12th on the list. Hand off to Washington or Askew or Barlow. Let Smith run a run/pass bootleg option. If you must pass, throw it to short to Coles or Dwight or Cotchery or Dwight or Baker. A 30 yard pass???? That call was the worst call of the season and it almost cost the Jets a game today that they had in the bag. I found today's win disturbing and not encouraging at all. If not for Pennington, Coles, Nugent and Graham, the Jets lose. The defense is awful. Every running back that plays the Jets looks like Jim Brown. And if the Jets get a lead, the defense makes every QB look like John Elway. The run defense is nonexistent and the pass rush is nowhere to be found (actually, it is in Atlanta). The Jets are the worst 3-3 team in the league. The Jets should have blown the Fish out today, but instead they escaped by the skin of their teeth. Very very misleading win. All Mangini has done so far is make key mistakes at key points in the game and let Pennington bail him out.
I tend to disagree. With the amount of passes the Phins dropped today they could and probably should have blown US out. A win is a win which ever way you slice it, but I agree it was not pretty.
Playing calling this year>Play calling the past few seasons. Atleast it's not boring and conservative is it? This is so much more fun to watch and it's working a lot better than you think.
This team has the same flaws weak after weak and is showing no improvement i cant see us beating a team like detroit. A genius like Martz will find 100 ways to rip our defense apart.
The bottom line - we need players. The defense needs another three if not four solid players especially on the line - the offensive line has two rookies and the right side of the line needs to be redone as well. Don't forget a homerun threat at WR - Coles is solid but he's more of a number 2. Mangini has done a pretty good job of molding the players he has. The play-calling today was questionable, I agree, but I think that has to do with the lack of talent the Jets have particularly the O Line.
Excellent. I was thinking about writing a similar thing. I'll tell you this, though. The Lions should run the ball. Kevin Jones had a huge game today and Kitna has been sloppy once again this season.
I'm usually accused of being a sunshiner, but I came away from today's game disgusted. The only reason the Jets won today was because Pennington and Coles play so well together. You are missing the point if you think that "a win is a win." How do you blow a 17 point lead to a horrible team with a poor QB???? How do not even think about salting the game away by running for a measly two yards! Think about it. The Jet defense stinks. Miami has just marched right down the field for two TDs and instead of winning the game by gaining two lousy yards, the Jets try a low percentage 30 yard pass to the worst receiver on the team. That is inexcusable. It is awful. It deserves to be pointed out. How would you all feel if Mare hits the FG and then the Fins win in OT? Do you feel the same way about the call? And for those who say the play calling has been more aggressive, today it was not at all. The only time the Jets were aggressive all day was on that 3rd and two call and that was the worst time to be aggressive. The CS stunk today. The Jets won because Miami's CS and team was worse (Can we take Saban's wizard hat away now?). While the Jets were protecting a 3 point lead for most of the first half, the Dolphins were too stupid to realize that all they had to do was hand the ball the Brown and pick up the guaranteed 7-8 yards a run. All I saw out there was two bad teams and the team that had a 3-0 turnover edge barely won. That is bad coaching.

Very very misleading win. hmy: if i didn't read it, i wouldn't believe it. :shit: as for the playcalling, that is because the offense is handicapped by the personnel. if coles or cotchery don'y make big plays, they have trouble putting touchdowns on the board. :shit:
I was at the game, and after watching our offense in the 1st half, I could have sworn that Hackett was there somewhere...but he got it turned around and LC had some NICE catches! Our D played well in the 1st half and could not adjust to the hurry up offense...still very suspect. Robertson sux.
I think the play calling is still better then before i was watching the chiefs game abit today and it was horrable. Pittsburgh just loaded up the line I dont think they played 3-4 at all today most of the time it looked like 4-3 with the safties blitzing so 8 in the box. They still just ran the ball straight ahead first and second down then when they were at 3rd and 8 the QB either got sacked or ended up dumping it off to LJ for 3 yards.
It's a no win situation around here... If he runs and doesnt make it, people are calling him the second coming of Herman Edwards. I for one was GLAD they went for the throat. Not pleased at the result, obviously, but after ALL THESE YEARS of people bitching about 'no killer instinct', now theyre getting shit for TRYING to go for the jugular. You can't win sometimes :-/
I wasn't thrilled by the playcalling either, but the Jets did manage to avoid turnovers and they got past the deer in the headlights phase for Chad that last week's shellacking produced. I thought the Jets might well lose this game early on when I realized how poorly Chad was playing, but somehow they got by that and had the now expected second half surge. All the people who are complaining about this game need to go back and look at last week's tape again. We're just damned lucky that this didn't turn into another blowout loss and a really bad rebuilding season.
I had no problem with the 3 and 2 call. I like the aggressiveness there, but what I do have a problem with is the play going to McCareins. Has he done anything this year? He isn't fast, so it's not like you can just chuck it up and hope he runs under it. He's shown no passion for going and getting the ball which nullifies any size advantage. Go to Cothery, Coles, Baker, Smith or Dwight before mcCareins.
Guess you'd rather go back to Herm coaching and getting the stuffing knocked out of us week after week? I'll take a 3-3 record thank you.
