NO are clearing the house and Brees $$ situation is a large part of what's happening. There are not that many teams that have this much cap space and are in dire need of QB. The point is NO's chances re trade might be limited. Meaning getting Brees might not be as expensive picks-wise as it seems. Perhaps one 1st rounder will do to unload NO's $ problems. We do have shitload of cap space and Brees (NOT Revis) is the guy I'd love to spend it on.
No one had issue with it except WW85 thought to do it. So he moved my threads here. I know exactly what you mean though.
Idk what W85 is but this thread should be with the other ones, it took me like 10mins looking to realize it was here
I'd triple like this if I could. I love Drew Brees the player but you have to have the entire team ready to go outside of the QB situation if you trade anything significant for him. He's 36 years old. If the Jets could get him for Quinton Coples even up then yeah you make that deal and let him cover for a Mariota draft or something. He's not going to win a Super Bowl for the Jets. There just aren't enough pieces in place and a year or two is an eternity when you're 36 in the NFL.
Actually this is one of the few scenarios where I wouldn't mind taking a chance on Mariota at 6. If you can keep him nailed to the bench in 2015 and 2016 his chances to be a good NFL QB in a no-option offense go way up.
He has an enormous cap hit whatever they do. I'm guessing they are just looking to see if they can get a good 1st round pick for him or something like that. He's going to be back with the Saints next year barring somebody making the Saints an offer they can't refuse.
Holy shit at people not wanting to trade for Drew Brees! We would instantly be in contention with the pats for the division. Everyone thinks our team is so far off but with a great qb our entire offense takes 10 steps forward. Pair this with our "good" defense and we have a recipe for success. SIGN THIS MAN NOW!
We wouldn't instantly be in contention. We'd be better positioned than we are right now but there's no guarantee we'd be able to exploit Brees as well as the Saints could.
In New Orleans Brees has had to deal with some of the worst defenses ever fielded. That wouldn't be a problem here. He'd also have Marshall, Decker, Kerley, Amaro and Ivory toting the rock. I think we ould be surprised at how explosive we could be.
He's 36. We have no idea if he will step down next year. Then you have the Jet's D being middle of the road right now. You have Ivory capable of breaking down on any carry. You have Marshall on his 4th team in 7 years. You have the 0-line being questionable. I just don't think there's any guarantee at all from bringing Brees in and I love him as a player.
You have no idea that he won't step down either. A first round pick for brees 10 times out of 10 with the team we currently have if we can swing the cap situation.
If Jets can hold onto their 1st while shopping for Brees, then fine. If not - forget about it. Not worth it. If Brees does come to NY at the expense of the entire draft picks and the farms, a lot of things have to happen - the OL must be addressed quick before anything, so it would have be done through FA. In short, this becomes another 'gun for the championship for the next 3 years, then spike' deal. We've been through that bullshit. Snap out of it.
I'm not sure he's worth it unless we also get Mariota. He doesn't have a lot of seasons left. Call me crazy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
