Trust me when I say this...The league and players know how smart Todd Bowles is, they want to respect a coach...instead of just running through a wall for one.
We are not going after Suh. Our DL is our best position, easily. We should add a corner and a safety for sure. Would love McCourtey.
Why does this have to be a Rex vs Bowles thing? Let's be real. The only players who would take a $1 less for a particular organization are the ones at the end of their careers trying to get a ring, like Demarcus Ware last year. Money talks. Nothing else.
McCourty, Maxwell, Cro and Spiller ... No to the Penalty Machine that is Suh. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Not that we should do it, but does anyone think if Andre Johnson is released, Mac and Co. bring him in?
Bring McCourtey, Cro and Culliver for the secondary. Add Worilds. Add Maclin or Cobb. Resign Snacks, Harris and Wilks. Keep Harvin for 1 year. Draft Mariota/Winston, RB, OL, OLB with our first 4 picks Looking good
What is with all this Suh talk?? This team could use upgrades/help at pretty much every position (QB-RB-FB-WR-TE-OL-LB-CB-S). The one missing from this is DL. It's probably the best in the league and every player is still very young... Why should this team pay 17m a year for a defensive lineman??? How about paying Mo!? Enough with Suh. Please. If this team is spluring for a FA, maybe someone like Devin McCourty, Pernell McPhee and or Orlando Franklin? But overall, I want to see high quality, but smart additions rather than just overpaying for big names. 55 million in cap space (plus the extra ~14M once Harvin and Johnson are cut) should make for a fun free agency period.
That plan would eat about 65m and that's a conservative estimate. Depends what you pay Worilds. He's a good player, but his sack totals are never that high and I read that he doesn't always play at a particularly high level. I don't get the sense he's the 9-10m/yr player that he's probably going to get paid. Cobb or Maclin (especially Cobb) and keeping Harvin would make for about 35m devoted to wide receivers, more than 1/5 of the team's total cap space. If you want a free agent WR like that, then Percy is gone.
If we could get all the players on that list and have to cut Harvin and go with Maclin over Cobb... That would be fucking amazing!
This is going to be so much fun. If they cut Percy and have about $65 million to spend, I'd like to see: -McCourty for about $9 mil/yr - slightly less than what Byrd got from the Saints - this definitely seems possible since he's from NY -Cobb or Maclin for about $10 mil/yr - speed guy to compliment Decker -Worilds/Hughes/McPhee/Orakpo for about $7 mil/yr - pass-rusher to replace Pace -Cro for about $5 mil/yr - bring him home -Flowers for about $8 mil/yr - best corner on the market IMO (assuming Revis doesn't hit FA) -Harris for about $5 mil/yr - make him a lifetime Jet -Iupati for about $7 mil/yr - let Winters and Aboushi battle for the opposite spot and let Colon go -Spiller for about $5 mil/yr - nice compliment to Ivory Then use the rest to resign Wilk/add depth everywhere and hope to land a QB at 6. Suh is interesting - players like him rarely hit FA in their prime, but like others have mentioned isn't a great scheme fit & DL isn't a need at all. I'd also be interested in DeMarco Murray, who will probably suffer from a "so many people saying he's overrated that he's actually underrated" type thing, and I think could end up being a relative bargain. It would be awesome to have him and Ivory.
One thing to remember in this free agent clammer, anyone the Jets sign will have to fall under next years cap as well. Granted that's not necessarily a big deal this year, but next season the Jets have several other players who will be due raises, some bigger than others. Among the potential free agents in 2016 off the Jets, only including the ones the Jets might resign or might be somewhat expensive. Chris Ivory, Demario Davis, 'Snacks' (assuming he's tendered), and of course Wilkerson (assuming an extension doesn't get worked out this year.). And in 2017 Richardson will need to be paid. While the Jets have a ton of money this season if they spend it all their cap will be tight down the road. It might be a good idea to front load a contract or two in to this years salary cap to keep space open down the road.
