Give Idzik credit, he negotiated the date of March 19th with Seattle on compensation for Percy. That date is important because free agency starts on March 10, giving us over a week to see what WR options there are in free agency before having to make a decision one way or the other on Percy. This will also give us ALL the leverage in the world to renegotiate with Percy if we want him back. He may be pissed, but the team has the power.

All the big name WRs will probably be gone or close to gone 9 days into free agency, so he may be forced to take a restructured contract if we can't get one of the other WR targets.

If this was already mentioned, my bad. But I never saw this aspect of Percy's contract mentioned in previous threads and thought it was worth it's own....

Also just read on ESPN.com - which has been discussed on this board about cutting him and resigning him later to avoid giving up our 4th.

What if the Jets try to circumvent the draft-pick upgrade by cutting him before March 19 and re-signing him at a later date? Sorry, that won't work. In other words, if they cut him March 18 and re-sign him at any point before the second day of the draft (May 1), they owe a fourth-rounder to the Seahawks.

He's not worth the money but worth the 4th imo if D Thomas is unavailable.

Agreed. If they can restructure and can't get Thomas, Cobb, or Dez (I know the latter is a complete pipe dream and isn't happening) then he is worth a 4th. Could we get a great payer with the 4th? Sure. Or we could get Jalen Saunders....

With all the cap space, I hope they keep Harvin even if they sign a WR.

If we can find a better deal on a free agent then fine, cut Harvin loose. Otherwise I would hold onto him for now. We will not find a better WR in round four.

Keep him if we can't get anyone else. Cut him if we can. It's that simple IMO.

However, even if we do keep him, I'd like to see if he'd take a pay cut. He's a good player but not worth 10.5Mil. The 2-4 Mil we could save could be used elsewhere this offseason to make us a better team overall.

Interesting--do you remember the talk that New Orleans was going to do this to Vilma cuz we had a similar deal at that time.

Our deal with New Orleans left them enough lattitude to screw us over.

They clearly violated the spirit of the agreement. I do not think they could have done so without Vilma's cooperation so he was shady too.

I concur with this point, wholeheartedly. It is also significant, for me, as at that time I will be over the massive hangover I will have incurred on March 17, and will be able to even give a crap about Harvin on the 19th, God Willing.

Jets are so void of playmakers on offense it kills me to think we FINALLY got one and will most likely release him over $'s.

With the way Belicheck/Brady just carved up the #1 defense with a passing game to smurfs should make every team in the nation quiver at the thought of Harving playing in NE.

It was dink and dunk offense that the pats used Sunday. All Brady s passes were with in a 20 yard box, with the longest of 23YAC.
