-Title What's this guys back round ?I'd be interested in seeing him possibly coach a team(any) down the line 1996 Baltimore Ravens Offensive Assistant 1997-1999 New York Jets Defensive Assistant 2000-2004 New England Patriots DB Coach 2005 New England Patriots Defensive Coordinator 2006-2008 New York Jets Head Coach 2009-2010 Cleveland Browns Head Coach 2013-2014 San Francisco 49ers TE Coach He has been back and forth -Discuss
I cannot believe his coaching career is revived. He seems like a really good X's and O's guy... I liked him on TV best.
He's 44. It would be more surprising if he wasn't given another opportunity somewhere. It the 49ers win a Super Bowl he'll probably get another head coaching gig off of that.
a lot of teams have done well selecting coaching and coordinator candidates this offseason. The Bears in particular have really upgraded at HC, OC, and DC. The 49ers, on the flip side, have downgraded more than any team imo. They've lost a good HC and all coordinators, and have replaced them with Tomsula, Mangini, and maybe Lane Kiffen? wow.. i expect that team is about to take a turn, but not in the right direction.
The 49ers went from one the best teams in the league with Hardbaugh to Jim Tomsula and Eric Mangini......I'm expecting them to be hovering around 7-9 by the end of the year or worse
I think Mangini will do ok with the defense, and he will also use some of his previous experience as HC to help Tomsula, the guy needs all the help he can get. I think the niners with a tougher schedule, will end up losing the close games they were used to winning.....6-10
I still believe he can be a good HC in this league, has he learned how to deal with players or will he still do his bad BB imitation? He had to work his way back up the last few years where Cle gave him a job right away after we fired him so he didn't have to change at that time. If he has changed it could be bad news for us b/c I'd expect him to reunite w/ Tannenbaum in Miami after Philbin is fired next year.
I have always felt that his downfall was not x and o's, it was his management style, more like lack of management, he was a dictator, even in his second year with Cleveland under Mike Holmgren, he was asked to tone it down. The team started to respond but then injuries to his qb sent the team into a tailspin, which eventually led to his being fired. I'm not worried about Rex Ryan, but this I agree with, the Mike T and Eric reunion, it's not a guarantee that it will happen but if he has learned to use the correct balance as a HC, and Mike T has also learned to be a better GM, that combo was good for the Jets, it could be good for Miami.
And if Idzick is hired in Buffalo and learns from his mistake and Geno leaves here and learns how to be a good QB and Pennington comes out of retirement to play for Miami and sanchez goes to the patriots oh my god I'm having a heart attack
The difference is that Tanny and Mangini were a productive team when they were here, unlike Idzik and Smith. Are you saying that there is no room for adjustments and growth?
I saw this and I felt terrible, Tomsula looked so bad. They wanted a puppet and I think they have one.
Mangini wasn't an excellent coach in any position that he has been in. Why does anyone give him respect as a coach? He hasn't proved anything. He got his start as a ball boy, so how does that translate into coaching pedigree? He sucked in New York. I wouldn't let him coordinate a high school team.
