You say that like its not a big deal, there's plenty of guys who are horrible at tackling. He was also the QB of the defense ,a decent cover guy and an overall good player. He's not a pass rusher its not his strong point
I found this but it is speculating based on his free agent status. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...ew-jets-gm-plenty-cap-space-article-1.2058616
No. That would mean he would be in the top 5% of MLB's. He's not worth that and no one would take him on that salary meaning he would still be here on a ridiculous contract and our organization would like scum to free agents thinking about joining. In addition to all that we wouldn't recieve any compensation next year even though it may only be a 6th round.
Harris is what he is and is one of the reasons the Jets have been so good at stopping the run. You need a guy like that in the LB corp that can shut down the run game and be at least marginally effective at getting in to the backfield on occasion.
Harris will probably leave for a better deal than the Jets are willing to offer at this point. Rex might well want him in Buffalo, Tanny might want him in Miami and there are several other 3-4 teams that might want to use him to shore up a perceived weakness in their front. The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. I expect him to get a 2 year $10M deal somewhere and that's probably $3-4M more than the Jets want to go at this point.
And that is only if we lose more f.a.'s than we sign. Which probably won't happen, so we can probably forget about comp picks this year
The Jets probably won't get a pick if Harris leaves. They're likely to be active in free agency themselves this off-season and compensatory picks take into account all players signed and lost in free agency.
Rex Ryan is going to sneak into David Harris's house and poach him away from us just like he did with Bart Scott Yes sir!
Fukk dat. Good riddance hitman. MLB's are replaceable and we should be going younger and faster anyway.
Losing Harris shouldn't be that big of a deal. Davis is a better player at this point and should be able to quarterback the defense.
I hope the Jets keep him on a 1 year incentive-laden deal. He can still tackle really well and is a leader on the defensive side of the ball. I thought he played excellent in the week 16 win in Miami.
