I actually agree with some of this, but the league's hypocrisy on a myriad of issues doesn't make what Suh did the least bit acceptable. I personally don't think intentionally stepping on a player (and putting all of your weight on a single leg of said player in the process) warrants the phrase "overly physical (debatable)." I think it warrants the phrase "flagrant and unnecessary." And I think this holds regardless of Suh's well-documented and pronounced history of dirty tactics (both during the play as well as after the whistle)
Suh doesn't know how to be subtle about his actions. He does deserve a suspension because of how boneheaded and obvious his actions are. Be crafty dirty like Hines Ward was.
We will have to disagree on this particular play.. But I will ask - if it was the same play but not Suh, a player without a history and reputation of dirty play, would you still advocate suspension? Do you think the NFL would still suspend the player?? Edit- ok I read your post again and realize that you answered the question. What a dummy I am.. I guess I disagree there too.. People are criticizing it/overemphasizing it because it's Suh in my opinion.. I don't think it was anymore violent/dangerous than your average personal foul play. In fact I'd say it's less than some. Was it dirty or unnecessary? Sure. But I think if it wasn't against Rodgers or wasn't done by Suh it wouldn't be a suspension and shouldn't be..
Look, truth be told, I think Suh's history played a major role here (no matter what the NFL says). That's probably not entirely fair, but I did think the play was egregious, in and of itself. I just felt he was intentionally putting his weight on a defenseless player's leg, which seems very dangerous to me. We can agree to disagree, though. I'll also admit that I don't like Suh and have thought he was dirty for years. There is no question that bias is influencing my judgement.
Suh is a piece of shit who does this kind of thing frequently. He's the defensive Josh Gordon, only replace marijuana with bad sportsmanship.
Suh is a pussy bitch. He doesn't do this shit to O-line men standing up, it's always some poor bastard laying helpless on the field. This isn't a WWF cage match, it's an organized sporting event with rules. Suh's a dirty player should have been suspended for multiple games with his record.
This is a joke, if Suh did this to a guy like Brian Hoyer, no one would care, but because its Aaron Rodgers its a big deal, gods not allowed to be touched. And you can't even tell if it was intentional, you are all watching it in slow motion, but at normal speed his momentum was carrying him backwards, just saying.
Suh deserves a suspension because this isn't the first time he's done something like this..but to suspend him for a playoff game and give the Cowboys a huge advantage isn't right. If anything he deserves to be suspended for the next game against the Packers. I never understand why in these cases the player misses the next game and not the next game against the team he committed the act again.
It should have been a fine at best. Suspension from a playoff game is absurd. Certain quarterbacks in the league are cared for by refs/league more so than others.
Suspending Suh is protecting the league, not Aaron Rodgers. Suh got away with stepping on Rodgers then applying more pressure before getting off (in the game).
I have no sympathy at all for that prick or the team he plays for. Any team that signs him as a free agent better put in a strong morals clause.
A fine would be very little deterrent. How much money is he making? Putting this jackass on the sidelines is the only way to send a clear message ... and he'll get an even bigger message from his teammates and coaches who have to try to go out and win without their best defensive player. There's no worse feeling in sports than letting your teammates down.
@AdamSchefter: Ndamukong Suh won his appeal; now allowed to play vs. Dallas m.twitter.com/AdamSchefter @AdamSchefter: Ndamukong Suh fined $70,000 for stepping on Aaron Rodgers' leg. But no suspension. He plays vs. Dallas. m.twitter.com/AdamSchefter
somewhere Conrad Dobler is probably smiling and saying that they did worse on a weekly basis in the 60s and 70s
100% Bama. Ridiculous that the guy was suspended in the first place. All the old time players have to be shaking their heads...they get paid all that money AND they're coddled..
