when we was the jets HC..everyone said he was a clown, operated a circus...etc.. nows he is free.... everyone wants him JOKE!!!
There are no hot names on the market. Gase and Quinn are both kinda unproven. Shaw may be good but who knows. Last year the Redskins and Browns couldnt even find a decent candidate, their process search was so drawn out, they ended up with guys they weren't even on their lists at the start. Rest assured, Rex will find a job, and may even be able to pick where he wants to go believe it or not.
As long as it is not on the Jets, good for Rex. He is a great defensive coach. He can help the Bears or Falcons improve. Raiders too. Still, very happy he is not on the Jets anymore.
Who's everyone? I know he'd be a hot property if he was willing to be a DC (He's not interested right now), but haven't yet heard his name for any of the openings.
No one with a brain thinks that Rex is a clown. Like Ive been saying were all going to look back in 2-3 years and regret that Rex was let go. Some fans have forgotten what truly bad coaching is..well we're all about to see it again very soon. Im certain of that.
Im certain we're going to downgrade. Whether it be one of the DC's , Gase , Mora..etc. All these coordinators are hot right now because they run the strong side of the best teams in football. Its a vicious circle with situations like this. Those guys leave , new guys step in and dont miss a beat. Meanwhile the new head coaches usually struggle with their new less talented teams and are recycled after a few years only to land as coordinators again. As bad as things were last season I dont see it getting much better..unless we hit big on a QB this offseason. Wont hold my breathe on that one though.
Sublime Silliness. This is what Rex was! We get it. You like Rex. But, try and at least be objective.
Despite all the vacancies and the small pool of experienced HCs, I predict RR will end up in the media this year.
So why are you expecting a difference if we hire one of those guys? Do you think Rex is so stubborn or so inept that offense just didnt matter to him? Do you think he looked at himself as a defensive coordinator? Rex was not the product of an elite system. He was an underling in Baltimore for much of his career..and worked his way up through the ranks. If you're giving me a guy like that instead of some guy like Quinn or Gase that got completely lucky with what they have to work with then I might accept it. But thats not what we're getting. And thats the difference.
So, because Rex wasn't an ultimate success as Jets head coach (and, by the way, I would argue he was a partial one), no coordinator can be? Has no coordinator in the history of the NFL ever become a SB winning head coach? edit: I'm not expecting a significant difference, but I certainly acknowledge the possibility that there can be one, either for better or for worse. This idea that if we are going to hire a coordinator, we better just keep Rex because no coordinator could ever do better is just silly.
I'm not saying I don't think another coordinator can't do better. I'm saying these available coordinators won't.
What??? You do realize that Rex Ryan was very lucky in the same way that the other two you mentioned were in that he was part of that 2000 Ravens D staff that made a name for everyone on that staff. So Rex was very fortunate that he got a lot of the kudos for that Baltimore D even though he wasn't even the DC at the time, Marvin Lewis was. Rex was given a lot of accolades and credit for being on that D staff even though he wasn't even their DC until 5 years after their Super Bowl win. So to say that those two were lucky and Rex worked his way up is disingenuous at best. They all benefitted from walking into very good situations.
Screw Rex, he was never a HC, he was a "rah rah" motivator who was in over his head. I couldn't be more thrilled to move on from the big mouth buffoon.
