I would rather Smith here over Simms, don't know why Simms is so beloved here… oh wait, yes I do, because he's the BACKUP, and backups are always the favorite. Now that Smith has been given a proper opportunity to make a a case as a starter and failed he's just a side project, but one not worth cutting out of spite. I'm actually really glad that process wasn't any longer or shorter than it needed to be so we can definitively move on. theres no doubt and no excuses now.
Rex can believe what he wants, he better believe that some other team will be seeking his services when he gets canned at the end of the season
So many idiots itt. You keep him at least until his rookie contract is up. Cutting him makes no sense at all even if the Jets draft a QB next year and retain Vick. Vick is made of glass and has been in the league (on and off) since 2001. Geno is a solid backup at this point. Would you rather have a Curtis Painter or Matt Moore?
Eugene plays out his rookie contract but is not offered a re-up unless he takes a quantum leap in his performance on the field.
I'd guess yes, just because he is a cheap backup with some experience. But, if Idzik gets canned, who knows.
It depends how many QB's we decide to roll with. If we have two active QB's, it'll be rookie (Mariota?) and a veteran. Geno will either be put on the PS or traded for peanuts. If we have three active QB's, he'll be the backup year one to the vet and released year 2.
If the Jets draft a QB in 2015, it's possible they keep Geno around to compete for one season, but if he loses out and is a backup or even 3rd stringer, it's almost guaranteed that he's traded either midseason or in the following offseason. There's no chance they will release him outright or let his contract run out.
As a Geno fan, I hope he gets traded. Things went south so quickly here, I think a new start on a team that has a veteran he can learn from would help him a lot. I defended him a lot on here, but at this point I have to admit he clearly wasn't ready to be a starter. Or you never know. Maybe he excels in a different system. It's hard to say. But I do think he and the Jets need to part ways. Unless he comes out next year on fire.
Chances are that Geno Smith will be on the roster next year and may even get another chance to start. Personally, I would wait for the off-season, attempt to trade him for anything I could get, and cut him if there are no takers.
Take it for what it's worth, but Rich Cimini believes that Rex, Idzik, and Geno will all be gone at the end of the year. I got it from Playerline. Interesting..
The future of Geno Smith will depend on the new coaching staff next season, but odds are he stays as the 3rd QB next year.
If it comes down to him or Simms for third string or back up id rather have Geno as a third stringer, its not like Geno hasn't had a few good games or shown flashes. Its just to bad we wasted the season on Geno when if we gave Vick the reins all training camp we would likely be 6-4 or better who knows,it just seems like the WRs try harder when Vick is out there because they know he can get them the ball and he can extend plays and create space
An Espn columnists say Geno would make a good QB but the Jets rushed him. Apparently we have done the to every QB since Pennington? Hunh? Geno just isn't good enough.
