Explain yourself...in detail please. I keep reading all this "support" for Idzik but very little to make me understand or change my mind. As well...the argument that he's only in his second year is not valid. The NFL, if nothing, is more a "year to year" entity than it has ever been. Any 2-14 team can make the playoffs the next year and vice versa...soo.....convince me.
Because he lost Adrian Peterson, is playing a rookie QB and their big WR has been dissapointing and called out by the head coach in the media? This year aside Norv is a genius as an OC...but there ain't much for any OC to work with here either. Marty looked like a genius last year and a buffoon this year. Rich did make a good point when he said Reid didn't take Marty to KC.
In general I tend to disagree...this team, the last 2-3 years, is all about the talent level...or lack thereof. While clock management and some boneheaded timeouts certainly are not a full "pass," the man doesn't block, the man doesn't hold, the man doesn't pass interfere, the man doesn't throw pick after pick 6...need I go on? These are PROFESSIONAL football players. They are accountable to no one but themselves... I find it incredibly difficult to believe that they hadn't addressed these issues. In fact the whole god damn organization does pushups after a penalty in practice! Certainly doesn't seem to have translated to games now does it? These guys play their hearts out for Rex Ryan...that is blatantly and painfully obvious. There is no quit in these guys. I saw it in the Buffalo game. No head coach is perfect and Rex has his fair share of "warts" but someone better step up and explain to me, fast, exactly what he does that has cost this team a game(s). Sadly, Ryan is going to get fired...it's essentially a necessary rite of passage at this point and, in my opinion, these players do not DESERVE a coach of Ryan's calibre. They deserve some ass munch like Kotite. I've said it before...you mark my fuckin' words...Rex Ryan is going to get fired and then he is going to land, on his feet, somewhere and spend the next 2 decades beating the shit out of the New York Jets every single damn time he gets the opportunity. Write it down...so let it be written...so let it be done.
Amaro was wide open on multiple occasions and Vick missed him. There was one play Amaro would have had a 25-35 yard gain and Vick tucked and ran. He doesn't really get much fault in this as he was open quite a bit, can't do nothing if the QB doesn't go through his reads.
Never knew he was a Jet fan- always enjoyed Rich... Now I definitely hate him for choosing such a pathetic franchise to root for
It's not support. But I haven't seen enough to say he deserves to be fired basically 8 games into his tenure. The first year was a throwaway. He came into a mess of a cap situation. He didn't have a shot but he still got a great starting RB in Ivory, the DRotY in Sheldon Richardson, Dee Milliner who has developed well (shame he got injured), and Aboushi who is a question mark right now but has looked better than Winters. But his hands were tied in year one, he didn't have the money to get any other players. Year two he gained the cap flexibility. He signed the top FA WR in Decker. Is Decker a number 1? Probably not, but he was the best available FA WR. He got the consensus top RB FA (Chris Johnson who has not panned out - it happens to every team, it's just magnified when it happens to the Jets for some reason), and a more than competent backup QB in case Geno imploded (and he has - the problem was he gave you signs of getting his act together through the first 7 games so it was hard to pull him). And this rookie class is so early to judge that it pains me whenever someone starts grading it. It's like I'm the only one that knows you can't grade rookies who have played just a few games, or even worse, who got injured and are on IR (I guess Idzik should have forseen those inuries from Shaq Evans and McDougal). Jace Amaro looks like a keeper, and Pryor looks like he can cause some havoc in the box. But we'll see. His biggest mis step as not letting DRC get away in free agency. They made him an offer, the Giants put out more money - you don't want to overpay a player just because it is a position of need, especially a guy with character issues like DRC. IMO his biggest mistake was letting Cromartie walk for Patterson. Same money basically, and Cromartie was a leader on the team. But there isn't a GM in the league who doesn't make mistakes. Is the Jags GM getting killed? Completely botching the Chad Henne/Blake Bortley situation, signing Toby Gerhart, Chris Clemons, Red Bryant....has any of their pick ups worked out? Still 1-7 after a terrible year last year and no signs of life. I don't know, just seems like the media has it out for the Jets and Idzik. But the bottom line is you can't just keep ripping up an organization after 1.5 or 2 years. It needs time to develop. We have young talent, we have cap space.....we don't have a QB.
Rex is a disaster as a HC, Eisen is drinking the KoolAid . Every fu#kin game its the same thing, penalties, undisciplined team, blown time outs , the list goes on and on. It's the same shit when Mangini got fired, all of a sudden everyone that wanted his ass out the door suddenly acted like we got rid of Vince Lombardi. I hate Rex as a HC, it's time to change the whole culture of this organization .
I agree with much of what he said, but disagree that he's a 100 percent right. He defends Rex and totally overlooks the fact that the team is sloppy, undisciplined, that Rex has never bothered to learn about the offense, and the bottom line that Rex is responsible for Vick not being prepared to play. After Vick was unprepared in SD, Rex should have gotten in Mornhinweg's and Vick's face and told them that better not happen again. Rex is a buffoon. He's a very good DC, maybe even great, but he's a lousy HC. The fact that the players haven't quit on him is not some great positive as Eisen tries to make it. They haven't quit on him because they love him for not getting in their faces, disciplining them, holding them accountable or publicly embarrassing them.
As much as I like Rex, he needs to go after this season. It's time that the Jets bring in an offensive minded coach. With the DL that the Jets have, any coach will get at least good enough production on D if we get at least some average players in the secondary.
Thank you for supporting your position. I appreciate that. You are correct that you cannot predict injuries etc...totally understand. This is how I look at things, though...there were two primary and GLARING weaknesses prior to this season. WR and CB. CB was completely ignored in my opinion. Nothing John did remotely addressed the potential issue. You simply do not rely on a journeyman, a rookie and a 2nd year player that "barely" inspired any confidence whatsoever. Utter fail. WR...yes, the man went out and got Decker. Very positive. However, yet again, you do not "wait" until the 4th round to target your next wideout. WR was FAR more of a priority than Safety was...and there were some very good WR's left on the board. Offense in general, outside CB, was a priority across the board! Not an epic fail...but a fail none the less... 5 of our losses can directly be attributed to having no CB's. If we had gotten ONE serviceable veteran we win, at least, half of those games we lost. I believe that. This was avoidable...and that is the failure of it all. This was avoidable....
That's just ridiculous. And CB was not COMPLETELY ignored. They went after Vontae Davis and DRC (They would have had to pay a LOT to get either of those players), signed Patterson and drafted a CB in the 3rd. Again, I said Patterson for Cro was a mistake. At the time I thought "well Cro's hip was acting up so maybe they know something we don't." Turns out they didn't, it was just a terrible move. Cro was a team player, a guy who had really matured, and we brought in some loser who left the team. But Idzik understood CB was a need, it just didn't pan out (who could've predicted McDougal and Dee getting season ending injuries, and some asshole walking out on the team?)
At what point do people stop blaming Rex about the penalties and start blaming the players? At what point do you stop blaming Rex for the blown timeouts and start blaming the players? Do you not think Rex doesn't talk about this weekly? Do you not think he's not punishing these players for said mistakes over and over? It's up to the offense to get set up in time to set the play up, not Rex, he can't go out there and line the players up himself. He has no starting caliber quarterback and no secondary to play, due to injury and a weak supporting cast in the position. We don't lose games from the run, we lose games through the air, defensively. And even with that, if we had a serviceable quarterback, we're sitting either over, or around .500 this season.
You miss my point...it doesn't "matter" about McDougal and Dee...are you really going to sit there and tell me, even if they had NOT gotten hurt, you would have been comfortable? A 3rd round rookie and a guy who "barely" got out of the 2013 season without the words "potential bust" attached to him...??? I don't care about expensive. That is the cost of doing business in the NFL. And Cromartie wasn't going to cost us shit comparatively. Why wasn't he given the benefit of the doubt having the hip injury all 2013? the Patterson signing was bush league...he should have never been signed in the first place...sure as hell not to be a starting CB on a professional football team. You SIGN a Cromartie...you SIGN a Vontae Davis! Hell, if John Idzik signs those two guys we are sitting here talking about potentially winning the division...I believe that...and so do thousands of others... The NFL is NOT about a 10 year marathon. That is Idzik's fallacy...all this horse shit about saving cap for the next 5 - 10 years. The NFL is a "right now" business and all it takes is a shit load of injuries to blow a loaded team and a championship year. We wouldn't know because we were handicapped and shit right out of the gate. Herm got one thing right...you play to win the game...right now. Not next year or 2 years down the road. You keep an eye on it but it's NOT your focus. The focus should be 2014...not 2016. I'll pull a page from Champ..."With John Idzik as GM he New York Jets will NEVER win a championship!"
Bingo!!!!!!!! Rex doesn't block, tackle, hold, pass interfere, call stupid time outs from the field, false start, blow assignments, throw picks, throw pick 6's, forget to secure the ball, fumble or generally run around the god damn field with his head up his ass. Those would be the players.
Are you high??? Everything he said was spot on!!! I'm not sure what games pro-Idzik followers are watching. This team has now become a laughingstock. I'm just waiting for a Letterman Top 10 on how bad this team is. I'm kind of sorry I predicted seven wins for this team before the season. At this rate, they'd be lucky to reach four. The one thing that Eisen mentioned that I thought about. When Norv Turner was available, why Woody didn't go after him? You know why? Because Woody is cheap and a putz. At least Leon Hess was old. What's Woody's excuse?
