Sanchez was coddled and developed for two years. After the Pitt game it was clear we couldn't do it on ground & pound and defense. Once we expected more of Sanchez we saw he was a bust. We gave him 2 years and he didn't produce. Geno smith never showed that promise that Sanchez occasionally had shown us. That's the bottom line. Time to move on. They both were crap QBs. I had to read this forum for years and finally decided to join after hearing fans say wait it out for both. I'm tired of it and losing patience as a season ticket holder and going to games for over 26 years.
Nacho and Geno are in different situations for rookie year and year 2. Nacho was on a team on the brink of the Superbowl thru his first 2 years. Geno has been on a team in rebuild mode. Geno is better than Nacho hands down.
Sanchez '11 & '12 was pure shell shock mode. There were points the offense was so bad we literally could not move the football. I remember saying things like "just throw a grenade in the offense huddle" and someone else on here wrote, "that would defeat the purpose bc someone like LT or Mangold would dive on top of it, to save the rest of them." At least this offense can move the chains. Few bad plays. One #1 defense. And a slow loss of overall confidence. And a rough fucking schedule, with some rough fucking calls; Jets football.
Actually, I think the biggest mistake the Rex-Tanny regime made was abandoning the ground & pound philosophy on offense. That offense served to slow the game down, keep rex's defense off the field, and mask Sanchez's many passing deficiencies while highlighting the (perhaps) biggest single passing attribute he possessed: His pronounced play-action ability. As you correctly pointed out, once we started to rely on Sanchez more on offense in 2011 and 2012, we started to fall apart. This tells me that the last thing we should have ever done is abandon the ground & pound philosophy.
Call me when we go back to having a Schitty OC... If you think Smith is bad now....imagine him playing for B.S. (all QB's -10 rating points from their career avg...)
How many game winning drives did Geno have last season during his rookie year? 5 or 6 I forgot. He has one receiver and a terrible defense. Let's build a team like Sanchez had before comparing.
Build a team like sanchez had? We have the best runningback trio in the NFL and the best defense in the NFL. It's the exact same team. Geno Smith was never good, not even in college and when we drafted him I asked the question, How did the Giants get a better QB in round 4 than we got in round 2.
You think we have the number 1 defense in the league? Seriously? Do we have an offensive philosophy that dictates we will run the ball more than any team in the NFL? Edit: It's not close to being the exact same team. Not close.
Yeah we have a better running game now. Kerly and Decker on par with Braylon and Holmes Edit: Oh and MM is much better than BS
No, we really don't. I think we have better running backs now, but overall, our line was a better run-blocking line then, and most importantly, we were far more committed to the run then. We ran the ball more than any team in the NFL from 2009-2010. We have no chance at getting anywhere near that many carries for our running backs with this OC. You are comparing apples and oranges. Sanchez and Geno were in completely different offenses in completely different circumstances.
Oh, and I like how you completely ignored my response to your completely asinine assertion that we have the best defense in the NFL.
Please point out where I said we had the best defense in the NFL. I just do not think in 2010 we had the best defense either. Truth be told are defense in 2010 was overrated and protected by our running game.
My bad, mixed you up with another poster. And I agree with the bolded. Still doesn't change the fact that comparing this team to the team in 2009-2010 is comparing apples and oranges. Our best defense since Rex has been here is still the 2009 unit, and I'd argue our offensive philosophy in 2009-2010 provided for the best overall running game.
2009 defense was better than 2010 as was our running game and oline. The difference was our receivers and Sanchez were better 2010 than 2009. 2009 we were lucky to make the playoffs in 2010 we were a stop away from going to the Superbowl. This team is built very similar to the 2010 team except on defense front seven are better secondary is worse on offense our running game is better than 2010 (Ivory is the best back we have had since CM) Geno's critical mistakes and playing more scared week after week is killing this team. Play the Vet lets see what this team can do. We will find out what Geno is made of because he needs to put all the negative shit behind him and play confident football. Sanchez was able to do that in 2010 not so much after that.
