Let's look at this from an outside perspective. This team is 1-3 right now. The only team we beat was the Oakland Raiders and even then, it was scary close. In these four games, Geno Smith has turned the ball over 7 times. He has thrown red zone interceptions, has fumbled in the red zone, has taken a sack to put us out of field goal range, and has made countless, and I mean countless, dumbass decisions that should have resulted in multiple interceptions that were dropped. But let's think about this. He has turned the ball over almost twice a game and has been the main factor in our losses. Other things contributed to those loses, but Geno Smith has been the number one reason for them. Our red zone offense has been terrible. You can sit here and blame Marty for part of that, which is understandable, but Geno has turned the ball over multiple times in the red zone and has made some decisions that make you understand completely why Marty may be conservative. 4 games now. 4 games of the same shit from him. It's like watching a tape and rewinding it over and over, yet here we are going into week 5 and Geno is still our starter. Why is that? Honestly. Why is that? What has Geno done so far this year that would lead a coaching staff to believe he can turn this around? What would make anyone think he will all of a sudden wake up against New England, Denver, and San Diego? For the life of me, I can not understand what would lead the coaching staff to believe that things will change? The question then becomes, what's the reason Vick isn't starting now? Is it because of the comments he's made publicly about the wild cat and the so called "quarterback competition"? Is it Idzik not wanting to admit his failure at Geno not becoming that franchise quarterback? Is it Rex Ryan not wanting to look like an idiot after praising the shit out of him the entire off-season? This seems to be more than a football move. Because if it were, there is no way Geno is still playing heading into week 5. How many loses and mistakes will it take before he is benched?
Very good points, but you are entertaining the idea of logic and that is not in Rex's makeup. He is a gut feel guy, and that will be his downfall. He is only half a HC. Listen to his pressers. He is hesitant when discussing offense, yet when defense is mentioned it is a 180 degree turn. Rex will be sticking with Geno just like he did with Mark. Winning be damned.
It's mind numbing. Every week it's a week of the same shit. The defense shows up to play, the offense has a few good drives, Geno looks comfortable, and then it all falls apart. Defense can't hold the opposing team anymore because the offense can't stay on the field longer than two minutes. Geno Smith turns the ball over twice. He makes more dumbass decisions. We lose by a touchdown in a game we should have won. Rex gets on podium and says Geno will be the starter next week baring an injury set back. Are you fuckin kidding me? What gives? It's so fuckin frustrating. If we had a quarterback situation where we had no other answer, then fine, live with it, let it roll, and draft another guy. But we are sitting here with Michael Vick on our sideline who can make some mind blowing plays and who is in great shape and yet Geno Smith is still our starter. And that whole bullshit people are saying about how Vick wouldn't be much different is just that, bullshit. How can anyone label what would happen if Vick came in if we have yet to see him this season? Will he throw interceptions, yeah, but I can guarantee you he will score and make the offense ten times more explosive than Geno Smith has. I'm sure all the defenses are shaking in their boots with Geno running the show.
To be fair the lions gave every QB hell this year so far besides cam. They are the #1 defense coming off a week of destroying Aaron Rodgers. But man I dont know what i want anymore honestly.. Jets offenses are just hard to watch man. I'd hate to see the team give up on geno but I'd hate even more to see rex go , but shit... We need good QB play & wins fast!! Idk if Vick could do that but.. Just sayin
the question I have is why the fuck did the Jets even bother signing Vick when Rex is clearly riding Geno to his grave?
Geno Smith has one of the lowest QB rating in the NFL right now at 75.1. The only lower one? Jake Locker. Yet he is still our starting quarterback
Because he only has 20 starts under his belt and has flashed an ability to play good football. Growing pains suck but you have to give him time to develop.
It's not just Geno although I do agree he's one of the biggest problems as he plays the most important position on the field. It's the awful red zone play calling by MM and it's the lack of discipline and drive killing penalties which fall on Ryan. It's the lack of explosive playmakers on offense. It's the awful CB situation and the fact that Idzik did nothing to address it. Like I've said countless times before, the only way to fix this thing is to bring in a fresh perspective and that begins with a new HC. Rex is a DC, we all know that. Yet it's time for this team to get a real big time HC who can build an entire team in his likeness not just the defense. The Jets need a Harbaugh or a Sumlin. These guys are program changers. Rex Ryan is not. Let's see if Woody Johnson has the foresight to do this or if he just keeps the status quo.
This and Idzik is running the wholes how right now. Rex doesnt even have the power IMO to put Vick out there. Rex isnt coaching for his job though because if he was, Geno would not be out there next week. This is going to be hard to sell to the fans, I mean what do you want? Geno to get killed in San Diego and then come home for the Broncos? Is that when you will make the switch? well its to late then. Lets keep the season alive, or at least try to next week.
I still think Geno has a chance to turn it around on the road away from the fans at Metlife and other distractions. He looked good in Green Bay in that was our only road game,if he doesn't pull threw on Sunday and we lose he is done
Because there's no other options. Simms is just an emergency backup and Vick isn't a good QB anymore. Smith is the only one that has upside at this point. And a switch isn't going to fix problems like WRs not getting open, WRs not coming back to the ball, WRs not going up for the ball, o-line piss poor blocking, receivers dropping passes, people fumbling on special teams, an injured secondary made up of rookies and second year players.
Falc0 alluded to the politics that we all assumed was going on behind the scenes. Idzik does have some skin in this as Geno was his first high profile draft pick. We all wondered why Idzik wasn't allowed to hire his own HC. Now 2 years in , we all wonder if Rex could make the switch to Vick without Idzik's blessing. I'm not so sure Vick could do much better than Geno as we just don't have a lot of talent on offense. We have 3 playmakers that may or may not be difference makers in a game. Ivory, Decker and Kerley. We have 8 other jags as Mangold and Ferguson are aging right before our eyes. Vick had Maclin, Jackson and McCoy down in Philly. He has nothing even close to that here so would Vick make that much of an impact? I doubt it. Rex has been saying all the right things now for over a year and there's very little doubt he's doing it now in the Geno saga. They don't want to appear to have caved in to fan pressure by making the change after such a public display of anger towards Geno and the offense in general. Rex is a prideful, stubborn man and he won't admit that perhaps drafting Geno or Pryor were mistakes. Idzik already has two black splotches on his FA resume (Goodson and Patterson) and most likely is becoming aware of the public's view of him. Idzik may be low key, but he's human and he knows sooner or later he's gonna have to hit it big on a DP. It may not be Rex riding Geno into the grave, but Idzik not allowing the switch to be made yet.
The problem is, where do you draw the line? If you bench Geno for his mistakes(Understandable), then why not bench Brian Winters who is in the same position? Why not bench Calvin Pryor for his mistakes? Why not bench a WR like Nelson for his fumbling the ball on Monday? Why not bench Amaro if he has a dud of an afternoon? Philip Adams blew a big coverage on the Bennett TD, does he get deactivated? Its why I hated seeing Saunders get deactivated yesterday(Unless there was some hidden injury not revealed?). He had a mistake, a big one on punt returning but you're really going to hold it against the kid for one mistake on a team that's committed full of them? Because he's a 4th round rookie?
we could be 3-1 or 4-0, the only game that was clearly Geno's fault was Chicago and if we get decent officiating chances are we win the game anyway. Geno has started going backwards since that 21-3 lead in GB but it's far from just Geno.
