Sad to say, but it's true. What he lacked in arm strength he made up for in QB smarts. Chad was a guy who can run an offense with a complex playbook, nothing had to be dumbed down for him. If Geno could go 1 game without throwing an INT I will be happy.
I love me some Chad too but he had something none of the other QBs had, Curtis Martin in his prime. Thomas Jones had a good stay and we have some talent right now at RB but they aren't Curtis Martin from 01-04.
You know, you're right. Just 1 franchise QB...That's all I ask. I would settle for a guy like Alex Smith right now. I'm certain if he were on the Jets last year, we would have been a playoff team. If he were on the jets this year, they would be 3-0
He also was smart, that goes such a long way. He rarely made mental mistakes and never hurt the Jets. Turn over after turn over each week for Geno.
Chad (and Curtis) is my favorite Jet of all time. He looked like the franchise QB we were waiting for and just our luck he's injury prone. Smart player and a good decision maker with the ball. As for Geno the talent is there and mistakes are expected, but he's better than he was last year. I think he'll be fine in the long term.
It seems like will never see it. If we could go 1-15 and got the #1 draft pick, I would be fine with that.
why is it sad to say? Chad was damn good, his issue was health. if he was durable he'd still be starting here.
Its because he wasn't required to carry the team and he could just dissect teams and not have to play Superman and start carrying the team. The game was different when Pennington played where the NFL became such a pass heavy league with the flags coming left and right where it encourages you to throw it deep. In 08 with Miami, he ate up teams because of the newly found Wildcat where it didn't require him to start throwing at teams and it utilized his best attributes. Same with 2004 or 2006 or 2002 our playoff years. What hurt Chad is unlucky injuries. 03 and 05 and 07 injuries told the Jets he isn't durable enough to be the long term answer which sucks. Without those injuries, he's probably our QB until 2010.
He sat on the bench in 2000 and 2001. He was 26 when he started his first game as a Jets after being a 24 year old rookie. His Wonderlic was 25 to Geno's 24.
He's smart it's just his decision making has to improve. If Geno is worth his salt that'll be corrected in time.
This is true...I think Geno is much smarter then people give him credit for...He is way smarter then Sancho...He doesnt need a color coded system to throw passes. He just needs to improve like most QBs do. Right now he is a below-average QB
I don't get how that is negative. Chad was the man. Still is. If he would have stayed healthy, he could have been an all-time great.
