Another game in the books and quite frankly i'm a bit surprised by the overreaction of this board. Of course everyone overreacts to every game, but i saw some positives here 1.) defense looks really good. we are well on our way to being a top 5 defense and most likely the best rushing D in the NFL. we were playing the best WR duo in the NFL and held our own. i understand Marshall was hurt, but he was hurt last week and still had 3 TDs against the 49ers. this is a REALLY good offense and we kept them in check for the most part. 2.) chris ivory needs to be our #1 back and it's not even close. i'll be the first to admit that i was excited when we signed chris johnson, but he's looked pretty darn awful. he isn't hitting holes and gets dragged down easily. ivory is basically money and has really improved on his receiving skills, we need more of him 3.) objectively, Geno wasn't as bad as people are making this out to be. His 2nd interception was absolutely abysmal and i was disgusted, but i still see an overall better QB. he has more poise and takes shots downfield. Decker being out CLEARLY impacted the offense in a negative way. Nelson looked pretty bad and the fact that he was our #1 outside receiver is bad. One thing that does concern me is when Geno jumps and throws, it seems to becoming a habit as sometimes he has space and still jumps. 4.) Refs have really screwed us recently. I'm not one for excuses, but this was bad. The PI against Walls with Jeffrey was absurd, there was no call there. The fumble is a joke and that should of been a touchdown. Last week was bad too. Like I said, we lost this game, but the Refs did an awful job 5.) We can't get turnovers and I don't understand it. We missed sacks, we dropped easy passes, it was pretty bad. If 1 of those catches happen we might of won this game 6.) Marty's playcalling is becoming a concern and I'm in a tricky situation with this. He has proven to be a good offensive coordinator in the pass and I honestly believe he's been crucial for the success of Geno. His schemes and formations all make sense, he just makes such boneheaded calls. I think after the media backlash he will run the ball more (i hope). 7.) people saying Rex needs to be fired are dumb and I'm sick of seeing that every week after a loss. Overall, we played some REALLY good teams close these past two weeks and we've been playing some bad football. I think the best team out of the NFC North (the lions) is our opponent next week so that'll be a fight. Can't wait
No one cares about close. It's win or lose. The Jets seem to like to beat themselves. The offense is limited. I don't care about the state of the cornerbacks right now. They've played ok enough for a team with a decent offense to win. This offense is just questionable.
The defense played well and the secondary stepped up. Geno and Saunders essentially gift wrapped 14 points to the Bears. Geno looked okay but his decision making has to improve. If nothing is there throw it away. He left at least 3 points at minimum on the field with the red zone int. Kerley was a beast, Ivory was a beast, I was glad to see Amaro get incorporated in the offense.
Great post, I could not have said it better on most of these points. For #3, I end up just being pissed at Idzik for some reason. He kept talking up how great it was that 8 WRs were competing for 5-6 spots but failed to mention they were all in the competition because the back end of the roster was so average and interchangeable. No impact players to step up. I can't argue with Nelson making the roster because he was at least steady, but the fact that he was in a position to make the team as the #2 outside receiver says a whole lot about the talent level.
The defense did look good, but lets also no overreact... they were missing their starting center, gaurd, and marshall was playing hurt. I agree with this. But at the same time we are never going to be a decent running team when 70% of our runs come on shutgun draws or shotgun read options. His first interception was terrible as well. the screen was busted, he needs to just put that in the dirt... and even with his throw it was way off target. his decision making was really bad. i'll give him a bit of a slide because of the coaching not preaching ball security and a lack of offensive talent. but he had 2 inexcuseable turnovers and had 2 others that should have been easy interceptions. The PI on walls was absolutely terrible. but the fumble wasnt a bad call. blame the rule, the refs blew it dead and it was close enough where you cant blame them. it was a fumble for sure on the replay, but at full speed it was close to where a whistle isnt travesty. we also got some horrible calls in our favor. amaro didnt get that first down conversion, and the holding call on 3rd down on the last drive against the bears was a phantom call it is pretty easy to understand. we are a bad team.... and bad teams are plagued by inconsistent plays and missed opportunites. no one in our back 7 is a ball hawk or playmaker. and you cant rely on forced fumbles for consistent turnovers. the timing of some of his calls is mindboggling. also, chris ivory gets it going and then we dont see him at all after that? I agree its idiotic to call for Rex to be fired. can blame the coach that a bad team isnt winning. i disagee that we played REALLY good teams close. the packers certainly arent a really good team. they should be 0-3 right now. they dont run or pass block well and their defense has all kinds of issues. rogers is great, but overall they are just average.
It should also be stated that the Jets really got screwed by injuries with draft picks. Shaq Evans (who I liked coming out of UCLA) is out for the season and so is McDougle. I feel like people forget that when they shit on Idzik as those are the two positions people complain about most
would you like some vodka with that kool aid? this is NOT a top five defense and geno smith is a turnover machine.
1: We can't do anything on offense without Decker...... 2: The Defense has held up better than I thought it would.... The secondary is a work in progres, but there's potential..... 3: CJ2K is a shell of himself, and we should use Ivory/Powell more...... 4: The Refs may not be to blame but my god have they not helped us at all the last 2 weeks. 5: Geno is a work in progress..... Overall I think there's noticeable improvement, but he's got a LONG way to go to be a even a decent starter.......
One other thing to consider is that in the grand scheme of things, if this team wants to compete for a wildcard spot, losing to NFC teams isn't the worst thing in the world. Winning is important but no team goes undefeated. I'd prefer the Jets make their mistakes AND correct them now while they are playing the NFC and then be locked in and playing flawless football later on when it's mostly AFC teams.
Your right we aren't a top 5 defense,we are only the num 1 ranked defense in the league after this game
Can someone remind me when was the last time we returned a punt over 10 yards.... nice going there Jalen PS HAKIM BLOWS DONKY DICK
- This is a young team that hasn't learned how to play 4 quarters just yet. If you don't know how to play 4 qtrs..you really don't know how to win. -I liked most of what I saw from Geno. Was some of it rough? Yes. But once Decker went down..sheesh..Kerley/Nelson/Salas/Cumberland is tough to work w/. This is young QB that is still learning.Outside of a couple 3 & outs..the Jets moved the ball between the 20's pretty efficiently. -I'd like to see more of Amaro especially in the red zone & more of Saunders isolated w/ the ball in space. - Ivory is the Jets best back RIGHT NOW. RB's tend to run hot/cold as season goes on. CJ2K may not have his same speed but he still hits the hole & always pushes forward. I'm fairly certain he'll have some big games where he'll be the Jets best back. It's obvious they are limiting Ivory's carries to protect him from himself. You start getting toward 15-20 touches he's gonna breakdown. - Once Milliner returns, I think this secondary will settle down quite nicely. In fact, the weakest link I saw out there tonight was Landry who got outmuscled more than once.A few more weeks for Rex to tinker w/ situational coverages behind this front 7 & the pass D will be well above average. -This DL seems to get better every single week. Let's hope Wilk is healthy...They are just dominant -Brian Winters was absolutely HORRIBLE in pass pro in the 1st half. But I'll give credit where it's due...I thought he played very well in the 2nd half. It was a relief to see him respond. Another tough loss. Another chapter of misery.
I don't care about stats, look at the plays. One of the overriding themes of the Jets since Ryan has been coach has been the inability to make big stops on 3rd down.
