the source of the bad pash rush and the bad run D is the linebackers! i've said it before and ill keep saying it. The source of the pash rush in teh 3-4 is what? the linebackers. The source of the run D is what? the linebackers. The front 7 has been doing a terrible job tackling. They cant wrap up ball carreris and it's annoying. And with the pash rush, we need fast linebackers that can get to the QB. Hobson has shown spurts of that but they needa consistent rusher. Miller is definately not to blame. A corner can only hold out so long when he's one on one with one of the top receivers in the league with no pash rush. Robertson has some blame, he needs to become consistent and either eat up more blockers or get past a single team
but if you watch that deep pass (beginning of 2nd Half), Miller was there and made a terrible play on the ball. he tried swatting once it was in the WR's hands, but whiffed on that too why? because he was about a yard behind the WR when they both jumped. that time, Miller was there and still didn't make the play. i'm a bigtime Miller supporter, but something is up with him; when he actually does recognize the route/play (like the one i just described) he still can't make the play. something is wrong. i'm not giving up on him yet. too much potential. but Mangini and Co. better coach him up because he has the ability. and yes, i agree; the front 7 needs serious refurbishing, beginning with the DL, immediately followed by a disruptive pass-rushing LB. cheers
that exactly right!!!!! the secondary in this day and age is the least of anyones worries.......all you need is competent people....yo dont need this so-called shut down corner that doesnt really exist anyway....its the front 7 guys...plastic you hit it on the head...the only thing you left out as I noticed a lot of posters haveis Jon Vilma.....he just has not been good people, and for some reason its taboo to mention his name
One thing I've noticed when watching our pass rush and comparing it to the opposition is that when the ball is snapped, their DL tries to go around our OL by trying to shoot the gaps. When our DL is passrushing, it just seems our guys go head to head with their OL. Watching Bryan Thomas constantly trying to bull-rush the opposition instead of using his speed to try to go around them is getting tiring. Same with our DT's. Our guys are trying to go through them instead of around them. When DRob tries to shoot the gap he does decently, but I just see too much of the ball is snapped and our guys stand up and try to swat the OL and usually don't get anywhere.
well i agree you don't get shutdown CB's anymore. but you can still find heady players who have a knack for making plays. nowadays, quality DB's are smart, with a nose for the ball. look at someone like DeAngelo Hall. he doesn't necessarily shutdown WR's, but he makes a lot of bigtime plays. cheers
true, very true but lemme ask you this...if someone told you you could have 2 outta 3....meaning great dl's and great lb's but not so good db's.....or any other combo.....2 outta 3 will be good....what would you pick to be your weakest link on D?
I agree with the assessment of Robertson, although you can't deny he had some good plays on Sunday, and played one of his better games, he has still had a subpar year. Considering what the Jets gave up to get Robertson, AND the fact that he's by far the highest paid player on the team its hard (at least for me anyway) not to tack on that "bust" label. With Miller its harder to say, on that one long pass to Reggie Wayne in the first half he looked absolutely lost, and it seems that more often than not when theres a big passing play against the jets its Miller's guy who makes the catch. But he's still only 22 and he's obviously a great weapon on special teams. Also with the jets' coaching staff i'd say the chances of Miller stepping his game up in the near future are pretty good. Robertson on the other hand needs to go.
I thought the same exact thing. He had a great bead on that pass but never adjusted to it to at least make a play on the ball. He could of at least timed his hit on Reggie or something. I woulda hit him as the ball came in. He was too finese about it. But with these PI rules, so touchy.
Robertson was a huge reach by Boobway, is way overpaid, and should be waived. Those on this board that continue to predict pro bowl for Robertson can't see the game in front of their face.
Moore should start over Robertson, and the Jets should seriously consider a DT with their first pick in the 2007 draft.
I think the entire secondary sucks. How many times did they stop teams on third and long? They've all been victimized, at least one time or another. Miller is just another goat out there. I'll say one thing though, the lack of a pass rush doesn't help.
What I don't understand is we were shutting down their pass pretty well for 3 quarters. Whenever it was an obvious passing down, guys were shifting around the line of scrimmage, showing blitz, and secondary guys were blitzing. When it came down to crunch time I don't remember seeing any of that.
All true, but Wayne and Harrison make solid veteran DB's look like crap all the time. You couple that with a front 7 that can't stop the run and is giving Manning all day to throw, Miller is in a tough spot. The Coaches are apparently willing to let him grow into the position.
He is a hard hitter, but not a good tackler. There is a difference. While he can certainly de-cleat receivers, he whiffs way too much. I wish he'd play with a little more discipline instead of playing so out of control. I'd sacrifice that extra oomph for a sure tackle any day. He's still young, so I'm hopeful he can improve his technique under the tutelage of Mangini.
So we're a week further into the season and I still have seen nothing that suggests that Dewayne Robertson can play NT in the NFL. We got gashed today by Fred Taylor because we had this enormous hole in the middle of our defense where a NT is supposed to keep things under control. This is like the 3rd game this season that the Jets looked like they had no clue at all on how to stop a simple run up the gut. And Justin Miller, yet again, went for broke on a tackle and let his man get double-digit yards after the catch. I mean what the hell? By the time you've played 5 or 6 years of organized football you're supposed to know the fundamentals of tackling, no? Justin Miller is the worst defensive back I can recall EVER starting for the Jets. Ever. Name one guy who was as bad. And Aaron Beasley looked like an all-pro compared to this guy.
The linebackers can't do well if the offensive line is blocking them after running over our dline, the way the 3-4 works is that our dline is supposed to stop their oline allowing our linebackers to make plays, however we have been absolutely massacred in the war on the trenches
It's not the end's issue at this point it's ALL on the nose tackles. If we had sweeps and off-tackle plays chewing us up it would be one thing, but the opposition is literally just running up the gut between the tackles and we can't stop them. I don't know what the answer is, but at the moment the Jets need a lot more guys in the box than we've seen in the first 5 games.
Deion Sanders was likely the worst tackling corner in history. We surely don't need a prima dona corner who's convinced he's too valuable a commodity to make a tackle and risk injury.
