Discuss our terrible second year guard's play. His counterpart at guard hasn't been too great either.
I know it's hindsight but I said a few years ago we should have taken David Decastro over Quinton Coples. Obviously we never know how that works out but DeCastro has been injured a bit but when on the field he looks impressive.
Winters are normally tough hard and cold with lots of snow and shitty weather,Brian Winters is a pussy
Aboushi looked really raw in the preseason. Not to say he's gonna be the next Ducasse, but I think it will be a year or two for him to be a trustworthy starter.
The discouraging part is the fact that the same move beats him every time in pass protection. All the defensive tackle has to do is take two steps up field then make some sort of move to the inside and he's dead in the water. I mean I guess he's not horrible if tackles try to bullrush him or speed rush to his left, but to have a guy that's so weak on the inside move is detrimental to the blindside of the quarterback.
The GM has a plan -- plus we have $21 million in the bank just earning interest to buy tickets for all the fans to the super bowl this year. We get to sit in the stands with the Jets!
I don't know what's worse, reaching for him in the draft or stubbornly sticking with him and not having anybody else on the roster who can play the position. Idzik had 9 months and like 14 draft picks and sat on his damn hands and woody's pile of cash.
I think Winters future is ultimately as Mangold's successor. Only problem is that Mangold doesn't look like he's about to hang up his helmet anytime soon.
Actually...he doesn't really suck, he just isn't an every down player yet & he's being overexposed. He's learning on the job. Jets have just gotta draft better.
Letdown with his development, he's not even that good of a hole creator which is a bit of a concern(He was good last week so maybe just a 1 week gaff?). I don't think its strength that is his problem or even his footwork, I just wonder about his overall adjustment to the guard position. He's a converted tackle, we did the same with Dozier and Aboushi. Its a new position to these guys. Makes you wonder if we should really stick to going after natural guards who lack the versatility to be useful but are damn good at the position itself.
