Hey Vilma, how many guys did u see in front of him? But its just easy for us to judge but we're not the ones on the field. You're exactly right. If Coles got tackled we would be saying the exact opposite.
I think the only people that can second guess this are those who were at the game, because people watching from home could only see about 5 yds in front of Coles.
Oh yeah. We were so close. If Coles took it all the way I wonder if that game would have become bigger than the Monday Night Miracle. Hmm...
Hey, I'm not bashing the guy, I'm just saying I thought I saw a chance there, I was just psyched that they got the ball that far down the field.
Most definitely. To score on the last play of the game using a play that only worked a handful of times. Oh yeah, instant classic.
yes but I think there was a block going on in the left side of the screen that might have confused Coles. He might not have thought that the Jet was going to get the block to work (the Colts guy had run from the right and was getting chucked down to the left). My thought is Coles saw the guy run in, thought the blocker wouldn't be able to stop him and decided to pitch the ball away... once that was in his mind it would be very hard to stop once you noticed out of the corner of your eye that the blocker had cleared the guy out wide. hell of a play though. I was impressed by the blocking and the smart moves by many. They made 11 guys cover the whole friggin' field. hell of a game... if only the refs hadn't called that one pass interference on Junstin miller or if vilma could have scooped under that pass deflection.
I really thought he was going to go all the way there weren't guys until about 6 yards down the field where he caught it and there was a LOT of blocking in front of him, so I really thought he was going to score. That is, until he decided to cut in the middle, but stuff like this is easy to say as fans. We weren't out there on that play, and we hadn't played a whole game. Fatigue was probably a great issue in that play.
That was my thought too. Coles mustve thought a block wouldve been missed. Also, u gotta take in account that Coles is not a screen play specialist. Unlike former jet Santana Moss or Carolina's Steve Smith, Coles doesnt have the ability to read screens and weave in, out or around defenders. Its not his style of play. He's used to grabbing tough balls and beating corners downfield.
That play was a blast!!! I hope the boys who worked DAMN HARD had a good laugh at it today! GO JETS! GO CHAD!
if anyone should have scored on that play it was washington, he fumbled the picth from mangold with only one tackler to break and he was already in front of him. but i like the effort. mangini said they practice that play everyday, good to know we're preparing for everything.
Just watched the last play in slow motion. During one of the laterals back (on the right), the player's knee hits the ground. If Coles or Washington scored, we may have lost it due to replay review. Look at it again, seems like a knee definitely hits the ground.
I heard Tony Dungy on Sirius today. He said that there were no less than 4 calls that would have taken back a touchdown if the jets scored on the play (there were a couple of time Jets were down by contact and a couple of forward laterals). Oh well, sure was fun to watch. Just think how pissed we would all be if they scored only to have it overturned on replay...
Yep.... it would have been over turned. Only a player that fumbles the ball can pick it up and advance it too.... it was fun to watch though..... but I also thought Coles had a lane... moot point.
All i have to say is that if Randy Moss was on the team, he would have been showered and on the freeway by the end of the play
Yeah I could have sworn I saw a forward lateral too. It's funny that the refs didn't feel like calling anything though. I don't think you can get a replay for a forward lateral, since that's a penalty. Not sure if you can get the replay on where the ball is downed, but I think you can get that atleast. It's okay, 2-2, with losses to what could be the 2 best teams in the AFC. If we beat the Jags, I don't think we have another tough game until the Bears game, imagine winning out and then facing the Bears in I think Week 10? Bears will probably be undefeated, that'd be a HUGE game. We just have to keep playing well, and we will get respect.
