I wish Vick had recommended he run more in college. Might have made a difference in some of our losses.
Given how good Geno was as a pure pocket passer in college, I don't blame him or his coaches at all for not running. There was simply no need for him to risk his health at the college level when he was completing over 70% of his passes, throwing 500+ passes in a season, 40+ TDs, and only ~5 INTs. If you have a quarterback like that, you don't want him running around getting hurt no matter how fast he is. At the NFL level, so far it looks like he probably doesn't have the talent to just sit back in the pocket all the time. So now he has to tap into that skill, and learn when to run versus when to throw it away. I don't want to see him running 10 times a game all the time, because he'll get hurt- but if he becomes the kind of savvy balanced QB who can take whatever free yards the defense gives him, that can help him overcome his shortcomings in the passing game. They'll have to leave someone spying on him so that he doesn't have a giant lane to grab a free first down- and that means someone else is in single coverage.
I understand not wanting him hurt, but I remember a fourth and one play against Texas Tech when he had thirty yards of open field in front of him and instead chose to throw it to a double covered Tavon
I think geno will get a handle of when to run and take the yards that are given to him. I'm not saying geno will every be like Aaron Rodgers, but Rogers is a good example of an athletic qb that can and will run, when it makes sense to. The year the packers won the superbowl he ran for about 24 yards a game.
Geno should just take what the defense gives him and make plays. Forcing the ball will not help him progress.
