I'll give you that.. Milliner is young and probably doesn't know a lot about media presence or how to tactfully answer questions without sounding like someone that has an over inflated ego. He also may not be familiar with the concept of EARNING respect and accolades. Humility is gonna be a hard lesson for this young man and I hope he'll "get it" one day.
c'mon it was just a stupid thing for the guy to say - no defending his statement. I think he's going to be a very good corner for us but he is very clearly not the best CB in the NFL. He knows it, we know it, everyone knows it. Stupid statement.
Knucklehead move by an inexperienced-with-the-media kid. But this should give hope that he'll be a real good one some day:
I don't mind that he said this too much, I like that he isn't going to say anyone else is better than him. You need that sort of confidence, but he'd better live up to it. He plays well, no-one remembers this. He starts out like last year and everyone is going to throw it in his face, probably for his whole career.
How dare he!! He said he was the best, big deal. It's the trend these days. You have DeAngelo Hall thinking he's the best corner as well as Antonio Cromartie, and we both know that is not the case. Let him be.
Compare it to what Geno said "I expect to be in the top 5" ... Geno made an intelligent statement. He doesn't make any false claims to where he stands today. He expects to be in the top 5. No one can take any shots at him for that.
Dee has yet to prove he's the best CB on the Jets, let alone the AFC or NFL. What's wrong with saying... I've come a long way, but have a long way to go. or I think I'm the best, now I have to prove it to the league.
dee isn't even a good corner yet in the nfl against some real competition, terrible thing to say but i understand where he's coming from.... one year makes a difference, show'em up dee
I always hated the talking,,,, you talk after games and after you accomplish something! I remember on draft day when he was first interviewed after we took him,,,I am paraphrasing but if someone else has the quote or link feel free,,,,the interviewer told Dee that many people/ jet fans are expecting him to come in and be as good as Revis do you think you can come in and replace Revis ? ( which was accurate but his answer bothered me ) ,,,his answer was " most definitely ".......I would have preferred Revis is a great player I will do my best,,,,,,or something along those lines ! Ps I hope this kid turns out yo be great but as of right now I am very scared of our corners until they show me something in games not at the microphone !
What do you expect the kid to say when the reporters ask that question? Another big deal made out of absolutely nothing by Dick Cimini.
This is the mentality that most CBs have. It's a position that requires alot of self confidence & a short memory. The kid ain't stupid. He knows his rookie year was lousy till that last month of the season. He knows the spotlight is on him..by making this statement he is forced to perform. I look at it as a good thing. This shows he cares & wants to be great. He's willing to put the extra pressure on himself. As for Gates beating him...Gates has never had a problem beating most DBs both in practice & games. He's a track guy w/ really smooth movement. His problem has been sloppy route running & brutal drops in big spots.
Do you think Milliner is better at this point then Wilson or Patterson? Quite frankly, the times Walls has played, I'm not sure he was much worse than Milliner
