I know MM historically loves to pass the ball, but last year we were close to 50/50 pass/run. http://www.fftoday.com/stats/13_run_pass_ratios.html He's a smart guy and will call the plays that help us win on a week to week basis.
I think that had more to do w/ a rookie QB who wasn't quite ready. I expect to throw more this year but I also expect to see the backs catching more passes(specifically Johnson).
yeah throwing to the backs is the best way to transition Geno to more passing. I'll be watching Johnson closely in camp to see his screen game, wheel routes, pass protection, and outlet options. He's not a traditional 3rd down back, but I'm really hoping for our sake he can begin making his biggest impacts on 3rds.. We know what he can do with the ball in space. Just hoping he can do those other things which make a true 3rd down guy.
Jets place Willie Colon and Antwan Barnes on PUP Posted by Darin Gantt on July 23, 2014, 1:24 PM EDT Getty Images Now we know part of the reason the Jets signed Jason Babin earlier today. The Jets announced that they were placing linebacker Antwan Barnes and veteran guard Willie Colon on the physically unable to perform list to open training camp, in addition to the signing of the veteran pass-rusher. Barnes is coming off some knee problems, so the addition of Babin gives them some experienced depth to get them through camp. Colon is dealing with knee and biceps injuries. The Jets also released cornerback Lowell Rose to create the roster spot for Babin.
we may see more G&P and tough Defense early against the top QBs to help with TOP and to keep the games close. I don't see Geno starting out the season throwing the rock 60 times a game (which would equate to a lot of TOs and a lot of 3-n-outs). G&P with a tough Defense is our best shot at keeping these early season games close. As the season progresses (assuming Geno progresses too) MM will start taking off the furry hand cuffs.
That's all well and dandy, but this is also the same guy who when we were within the 10 yard line with first and goal, we are passing the ball and settle with a field goal.. Happened twice this year.. Every 1st down should be an automatic run. And if it gets is 5 yards or more, run it again on 2nd down.
We can't just run the ball like we did in '09 and '10. The o-line isn't close to as good. We also have red zone threats this year with Decker and Amaro.
When you have Ivory and Johnson on your team, you run the football.. The line is good enough.. We don't have Peyton or Brees back there. Play to your strengths.. You have a stingy defense and a good running game.. Not rocket science.
They cut him because he's old and would take snaps away from the young pass rushers they're trying to develop. He's a good fit for the Jets because we really need a pass rusher, and Rex can find creative ways to use him. He'll be good as a pure pass rusher.
Solid enough move, worth taking a look to see what he has left. This is a very Rex move in that he picks up a player that has burned him in the past. I think he had a 3 sack game against us when he was with the Eagles a few years back. Kind of similar to how Rex sought out Santonio because he used to burn the Ravens when Rex was DC. Hell, I bet part of the reason Chris Johnson was brought in was that long TD he torched us on 2 years ago.
That was probably Babin's 18-sack Pro Bowl season in 2011. It'd be great if he could get 9 or 10 sacks this year.
I'm excited about this. Very good signing. I was hoping we'd find that extra guy that can rush from the LB position. Coples / Babin / Barnes or Pace? I'm loving the sound of that. If Pace could get 10 sacks last year, Babin will probably get 12+ behind this sick Dline. What a better way to help the young secondary than to add more pass rush.
It would make you think that they are really worried about the corners if they are beefing up the best unit on the team.
