How bad was our play calling? Marty Mornhinweg had just been fired from his job when he took over and he was %100 better than what we'd had.
Good point... Morningwheg deserves a bunch of credit for last years 8-8 record. Things could have really spiraled out of control. Probably saved Rex's job to boot...
^^^This... the 3rd down draw plays made me scream... If we knew it was coming surely the opposition did....
How would you know what I thought of Braylon? I didn't even post here during his time here. But he was solid as a number 1 here in 09 and good as a number 2 in 10. Some fans def overrated him when no team wanted him and people were clamoring for the Jets to bring him back when he was obv done. If Pennington ever had the luxury of playing with WRs like Sanchez had he might've gotten us to a Super Bowl. Just because Hackett's tenure included a hall of fame RB during his prime doesn't automatically give him the edge in talent.
Coles was outstanding for us in 2002, he was good in 2001. he left and hurt his foot and when he came back he was good but not nearly as good b/c of the foot issue but w/ Hackett he was a PB caliber player. Coles & Moss are better than Holmes and Braylon. both duos were good but the less thasn 1 year Holmes/Braylon were together Holmes was suspended 4 games, Cotch missed games, Braylon had the DUI. if they played 16 games together I might give them the edge but they didn't. Schotty wasn't that bad while Hackett was. The reason Brian took so much heat is because of the Sanchez fanatics who had to find someone to blame for Mark's deficiencies.
Not when it looks like below. This is the TD % in the RZ for the Jets 2006 Jets RZ: 43.14% #25 in the NFL 2007 Jets RZ: 36.73% #31 in the NFL 2008 Jets RZ: 53.23% #17 in the NFL 2009 Jets RZ: 50.94% #17 in the NFL 2010 Jets RZ: 44.26% #28 in the NFL 2011 Jets RZ: 65.38% #2 in the NFL 2012 Rams RZ: 51.35% #19 in the NFL 2013 Rams RZ: 51.02% #25 in the NFL Schotty's RZ offense has never broken above average in the NFL let alone top 10. So the year it jumped to #2, I would place emphasis on Moore and Plax than Schotty suddenly improving and then declining. This is according to http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/red-zone-scoring-pct?date=2009-02-02
Sanchez has nothing to do with Pennington's poor performance, or Schottenheimer's play-calling in 2008 against Seattle. Unless you've just become a fan, I suggest keeping quiet.
Plax and Tone scored 12 of their 16 receiving TDs in the RZ. So Tone, Plax, and Tom Moore are the reason for the jump? There's a clear jump and decline, so I would put the focus on Tom Moore providing that bump and Plax catching 7 out of his 8 TDs in the RZ. I'm sure there are tons of other factors, but Moore and Plax are the big ones to me.
I think Tom Moore gets way too much credit, he was a consultant. we finally had a huge target who caught a a bunch of TDs and commanded attention in the RZ opening things up for others. I think the reason was Plax more than anything else.
I think he definitely deserves credit but this is all TDs, not just passing in the RZ. So that's why I credit Moore. And we had Braylon for a couple years under Schotty plus LT and Greene in the RZ and also Keller. That's why it's Moore and Plax as the big two reasons for me.
No, we should have ran the ball more. If Favre ain't playing well you don't continue to dial long long passing plays. Schottenheimer should have been fired that season along with Mangini. Damn Woody ...
Braylon was a deep threat more than a RZ threat, we actually had a downfield passing attack which we haven't had since Braylon left. we couldn't run that day either, favre sabotaged our season.
This is a tough one for me because I couldn't stand either guy. Hackett: Too conservative and rage-inspiringly predictable calls. Schotty: Got cute with playcalls at times and outsmarted himself. Some real boneheaded calls. I'll take Schotty. He at least had the balls to try some unconventional shit. It felt like we had more big plays, and being unpredictable is more exciting to watch.
Most complaints about Schotty were about Mark and from Mark's devoted fan base. They will never blame Mark's terrible play on him. They prefer to blame it on Schotty and Sparano.
Well that's Sanchez devoted fan-base, fortunately I am not part of that fan-base. I hated Schottenheimer well before Sanchez came to the Jets. Sparano still is the worst coordinator the Jets have ever had.
