so the team went 8-8 and will improve if geno improves or stay about the same if he doesn't? not much of a prediction he is making.
meh... at least its not a 2-14 record or something else stupid. theres questions everywhere on this team. Some things will work out better than expected, something will fall flat, another 8-8 isn't the most farfetched thing in the world.
The Seahawk buildup went 7-9, 7-9, 11-5, 13-3. One of the things that makes a championship team is knowing which years to build into to open the window. I expect the Jets will win 8 games next year. I'd like it if they won more and made the playoffs but that will require getting lucky at QB and maybe a few other places as well.
You bring up a very good point. An 8-8 season would also present an intriguing challenge for Woody -- a choice must be made between Idzik's longterm vision and the short-term "need" for a scapegoat. If the Jets go 8-8, with Geno showing a little more consistency and modest progress, I fully expect many fans to be clamoring for Rex's dismissal. The media will, too, if we lose to Miami in week 17. In my opinion, firing Rex probably wouldn't be the prudent thing to do given Idzik's supposed long-term plan. Yet, if the Jets do go 8-8 (or 7-9, or even 9-7 and miss the playoffs, or even), Woody's decision to keep or fire Rex will tell us quite a lot about our team's potential over the next 2-4 years. The question then becomes, what team do we perceive ourselves to be? The perennially 8-8 Cowboys are the 2011 Seahawks.
8-8 would not be a disaster for the Jets at all unless it included a late season collapse from 8-5 again. I think both Idzik and Woody are likely to want Rex back if the roster plays to its level and that's the result. It really comes down to the QB position. What are we going to get there?
Of the 8-8 teams the Jets were the only team to improve 2 games from the previous season. Miami improved one game, Dallas remained the same and the others lost ground.
