Awesome pick by the Jets - this just makes the defense more nasty and close to what a playoff caliber type should be ..
I liked the pick... Was on record on DD last year and ftr, I like this one too... My fav position and hopefully we can hit from day 1.
The first round should not be its own day. The draft should be on the weekend where it belongs. Unfortunately, we have no say in when it's held neither do we hold any influence over Rex and JI. As I had mentioned in previous posts, Idzik let us know how he would do things not who he will pick. How we stomach his selections is really based on your own expectations and your own ability to roll with it when your expectations don't work out. That said, everyone is sick of waiting 40 plus years for a SB win. How we get there is a matter of opinion. We need great players on both offense and defense which I believe through draft and FA we are getting. If I am Idzik, I am screwed if I go O or D because no one will ever be pleased. Now, we have several more selections to make. I am guessing most of our picks will be for players that help us score points. All you can do is voice your opinion and not act like the sky is falling.
It was an excellent pick from a game theory perspective. Jets got their DB just in the beginning of the DB-rush and now the DB-talent pool is pretty much depleted for the second round, while there is still plenty of value when it comes to receivers. Gj, Idzik!
Let's hope so. Everyone is getting caught up in the vicious hit style of this guy. I'm more concerned with the head hunting penalties and his range. I got tired of seeing TE's run amok throughout the Jets secondary and Eric Smith 5 yards behind them chasing. In the run game this guy might be a factor but we might still have problems in coverage.
If the Jets take a guard in the first 3 rounds I will be sick. Wouldn't mind Sheldon Richardson at 13. He is moving up the charts and would give us a quickness and push up the middle of the DL. With Coples and Big Mo pushing from the ends it could create a lot of problems for OL's. BAZINGA!!!!!!!!
I think he was a good pick. Brandon Cooks would have been the main alternative and he is more of a slot player which is not what we need. I think we need to get a receiver who will stretch the D. I think JI has had a great off season. He has saved us cap room which will be needed for the likes of Mo wilkerson and did not get drawn in to buying old players on the decline like the Raiders. Go get Lee or Robinson now!
One more to back me up Very Convincing ↑ The New York jets had one problem last year that was very uncharacteristic of a Rex Ryan Defense. The inability to stop the run, ranking 26th in league giving up 133.6 ypg. Some say it was our lack of speed at linebacker while others have disregarded it all together. The truth of the matter is we need help right up the middle. Pouha was released for his poor play and didn't live up to his contract. So we are thin at Nose Tackle. Kendrick Ellis has done little to excite me so far, flashing some potential here and there but he just doesn't excite me for the future. Well I say I have the answer to a ton of our defensive problems and its the guy known once to be a pipe dream, an interesting prospect who has fallen in the draft to no fault of his own. Enter the once touted first overall pick and lock for the top three DT from Utah Star Lotulelei. This guy dominated his competition in college and only by a miracle is this guy even able to be mentioned at the ninth or thirteenth pick A misdiagnosed heart condition caused him to drop out of the discussion. Well guess what the prospect locked for the top three is now an underrated prospect. Some might say we have taken a d-line man the past two years and there is no way we take another one! I say we should. Beef up the middle of our defense and get our version of our Haloti Ngata. This guy instantly comes in and demands a double team. Hell that won't even stop him be splits double teams for a living and will cause pressure right up the middle Ala Kris Jenkins. He reps 225lbs 38 times and has the strength to hold it down at NT in a 3-4, if that's a concern it shouldn't be because our defense shows so many different looks and he can be used in a variety of ways. 4-3 DT and in the 46 bear he can do it all. Most importantly he demands a double team, as does Muhammad Wilkerson, and my prediction is Coples will too this year or the offense will be in serious trouble. The truth is there isn't enough offensive linemen to cover those three players let alone our line backers and blitzing safety's. Star will open up Rex to do what he does best; dial in pressure through exotic blitzes with our freed up linebackers and safeties, force your Oline to cover our three d-line men one on one and roll the dice. Ill take our Dline for the next ten years. Star is my guy at number nine and should be yours too as he opens up so much for this defense and allows Rex to be Rex. Click to expand... If Star is gone Sheldon Richardson could be an alternative. Yeah that's me in the BOLD at the very end...BOO-YAH!!!!!!!
No matter what you think of the Pryor pick or the state of the franchise with Idzik, things could have been a lot worse. David Caldwell could have accepted Woody's offer to be our GM. http://walterfootball.com/draft2014day2preview.php 2. Speaking of the Jaguars, ESPN's Britt McHenry reported that the Jaguars would have taken Blake Bortles even if Jadeveon Clowney fell to No. 3 overall. That sounds ridiculous, but I believe McHenry. Jacksonville is that incompetent. Even the teams that had Bortles at the top of their quarterback board, like the Vikings and Texans, weren't willing to snag him until the 20s. If that's not bad enough, take a look at how the Jaguars made their decision: The Browns received some flak for taking a homeless bum's advice to select Manziel, but asking a kicker what he thinks is far, far worse.
Come on man, I don't like either Ryan or Idzik, but its hard to argue with this pick. The defensive backfield is a shambles, and they still need at least one corner. 11 more picks to go, save your judgement to the end.
Yeah let's talk about things you've said. If this was a position the Jets didn't need, why did you want Bucannon or Ward?
If you are going to go BPA which is what many always think is the best then you should get the top rated at that position. Bucannon was the best FS available. I'm not a big BPA guy you only do that when your team is stacked. If you have holes you need to fill those holes. BPA is for UDFA its shouldn't be your draft strategy. Idzik could have filled this position in free agency.
Two days ago no one was talking about a safety with the first pick. Now all of a sudden everyone says it was a need. During the whole free agency period no one mentioned a safety needing to be addressed because we had 5 of them already on the roster. Just sayin
