The Jets are in the best position of any team in the the first 20. They have no glaring need in a draft where their biggest weakness is very deep (WR). Expect them to look to trade down if they can find a partner. Cleveland at 26 would get them a second and maybe a 3rd. if they throw in a 4th. of which they have 3. With 3 picks in the first 50 they could really increase their talent level. If Cleveland doesn't go for a QB at 4 they will be looking for one at 18.

They have a real need at CB but they may be able to fill that later. They don't really need any more picks and I see them moving up before they move down.

CB of quality can be found in later rounds, WR of quality can be found in later rounds. If one of the premier safeties is still on the board at 18 then I think that's where we are going.

My feeling has always been that Idzik will stick to BPA - Therefore throw need out. I feel the Jets if the board falls correctly will have an ILB or OL there for the taking. CB maybe. I really feel WR is not the way they go particularly with the WR depth availabe in the draft.

CB, TE and OLB are needs as well as WR. NFL teams are always looking to add talent. Injuries are expected so volume is important. My guess, for what it's worth, is that they are looking to trade down and other teams know it and will be making offers right up to the time they choose.

I'm just foaming at the mouth thinking of Cooks in a JET uni.

Could be OT, WR, FS, CB, ILB or OLB. Depends how the board falls.
Still a very good chance it will be WR. I just put the odds lower than expected, as i'm not convinced WR will be the BPA at 18.

Of course a trade up, or a trade down, would change everything. Personally I'd prefer to trade down, as i love the depth potential at picks 20-50..

Trading down in a deep draft makes sense....get 4-5 good players instead of just 1 or 2.

My two horses at receiver are Cooks and Matthews. Cooks would be the overall best contributor in terms of game breaking ability, but Matthews could step in immediately and I think he'd be the more consistent contributor of the two over a span of 5 years.

For everybody you pick up there is somebody you have to cut so it isn't always that easy especially when you are talking about late round picks. They currently have 71 on the active roster and 12 picks so already they have a ton they have to get rd of. I'm not sure extra picks are going to help unless you think the bottom 30 are all garbage already.

I do wonder what sort of contingency plans the Jets have in place if they fail to find a cornerback in the draft that fits the scheme and draft value of any of their picks... possibly trade for someone else's reject, such as Morris Claiborne?

Trading down with 12 picks makes it really easy to maneuver in rounds where you cant decide what players you want to pick in rounds 2-5. Basically it's a license to mock draft, but with the power of a football FO behind it.

If you trade back early and pick up extra 2nd or 3rd rounders, you can use the 7th, 6th, and even 5th round pick to move within those mid rounds and get the guys we like the best. We can trade back, and still end up with like 10 picks and be able to get the guys we like the best. In theory anyway.

True but if we already have quantity I'm not sure we should sacrifice quality for even more quantity. Especially sacrificing first round quality to get 3rd or 4th round quality.
