Hold on here. You can't say explain away Williams lack of production (as was listed above) by saying he is Junior, and then say he will be able to produce against NFL OTs and be a beast. Either he is good enough to come out of college now or he isn't. You can't have it both ways. You also can't just shrug off Bricks production as a sophomore because he is naturally talented as a pass rusher. But then try to explain Williams lack of production becuase he is a junior, who is supposed to be this "beast" (as everyone likes to keep saying) and naturally talented as well. By the same token, Brick faced bad teams as well during his college tenure, which I am sure helped his stats as well. As I said before, either player would be great additions to any team (especially the Jets :grin. But if we are going to evaluate the players, lets be fair and not have double standards.
I actually agree with everything Green Hurricane said, but I don't think you and him were talking about the same thing.
My point was slightly different, but they were both similar. You can't say that Mario wasn't producing because he wasn't getting sacks every game. He was producing against the run in some of those games, maybe some of those games his sack numbers were affected by the game plan, and others he might have just been struggling with his pass-rush because he was a Junior without his game completely developed yet.
I guess i know what youre saying, but there still is this double standard. Mario Williams wasnt that productive but everyone acts like hes a godsend. Lets call a spade a spade. People want him because of his size+combine numbers+the hype. Now in his case people can overlook his lack of true production and short comings. Now in the case of Brick, they want to throw him under the bus because they heard Mel Kiper mention Daryl Trapp beat him in one game. They hold that against him till theyre are blue in the face. I never ever heard anyone mention anyother player who "had his way with him." Nevermind he shutdown Shawne Merriman, Jason Babin, Kiwi, etc and didnt give up many sacks, they always come full circle to the VT game as the reason we should pass on him. My point is that D'Brick has a way better resume' than Mario, but doesnt get his credit
Ferguson gets plenty of recognition and credit. But he doesn't deserve to be considered one of the best LT prospects to come out, because he isn't a complete enough player. People like Mario because he is a Junior who is already a fairly complete defensive player, and he is also the greatest physical specimen to come out since Peppers.
we are a buncha losers. We are here arguing over something we have no control over on a beautiful spring day. Lets agree to disagree....till next time(lmao)
You, yourself, said that Mario is not a complete player either: So it okay that Mario is not a complete player because he is a Junior and his pass game isn't completely developed yet? You don't see the double standard here? Either he is good enough to come out of college or he isn't. You can't in one breathe admittedly explain away Williams drawbacks because he is a Junior, and by the same token ignore Bricks accomplishments for all 4 years and use his shortcomings to say he is not a complete enough player. Every player coming out of college has shortcomings, none are "complete" players yet. None have played a single down in the NFL yet. So as soon as they declare, their class becomes irrelevant. They are judged, positives and negatives, by the same standards. Otherwise any discussion becomes superficial.
I said he is a fairly complete player, and in a past post I said that because he is a Junior he will have games where you can tell he still needs to refine skill because he is not a COMPLETE complete player.
3 weeks into the NFL season, my vote still goes to D'Brick. So glad we didnt take Mario. BTW, where are all the "Super Mario" bandwagon jumpers now?
I'd go as far to say that Brick has been the best pick in the draft on performances in the first 3 games this year: he plays one of the hardest positions on the field and has barely missed a beat during those games. There are perhaps better 'value' players in the last draft who are playing now: namely players who were picked in later rounds who are now getting games week in week out and performing well, but despite these players performances, Brick is the outstanding player so far in this draft class. Even if Reggie Bush was available at number 4, I would still pick Brick over him. Pennington's numbers and our wins have come in most part off the back of our O Line protection. Brick is a very big part of that. Reggie Bush looks like a fantastic player, but he's not there on every offensive play like Brick is, and he is not able to impact NFL games the way he did in college. Mario Williams will probably develop into a very good player in the NFL, but does now look a reach at number 1. Vince Young won't be an NFL quality QB until years from now probably. The rest of the top 10 in the draft don't stand up to Brick's quality. Can't of course forget Nick Mangold: he has been outstanding this season as well. Picking two O Line players with our picks looks at this stage to be the right course for the Jets. The rest of our draft looks at this stage to be a mixed bag, but we won't be able to properly assess that until years from now.
No Ferg is not one of the best LT prospects to come out .His average run blocking holds back his overall status. However, he is def. one of, if not the best pass protectors to come out of the draft ever. Let's face it...Lt's make the big money to protect a QB's blind side from the opposition's best pass rusher...most teams prefer to run to the strong(right side) anyway...This is what makes Brick so attractive as a prospect. He can neutralize a defense's best pass rusher and allow the passer time and confidence to look downfield. In regards to the battle...I think they will both have outstanding NFL careers(although playing for a horrid franchise like Houston doesnt bode well for Williams)..however if they were to battle right now i' give the edge to Brick. He's much further ahead of Mario in terms of technique. Williams hasnt learned how to use his hands and create leverage w/ his frame. Brick gets better every week in regards to take quality angles and taking advantage of his freakishly quick feet and long arms __________________
