D'Bricks' specialty is pass blocking. How do you guys think he'll do against Dwight Freeney's speed rush this week?
I think he'll be fine. you saw how he handled himself against the bills pass rush which were supposed to have pennington seeing the clouds all day, they didnt because the line as a whole did a good job but d-brick did a good job individually. He also took on Seymour when we played the pats and he did a pretty good job, he'll be solid, may make some mistakes but he will be solid
Freeney is a freak, so i doubt that he will be able to contain him. Freeney might only get like 1 sack but im sure the pressure will be there a lot, Freeney's play will also probably lead to a lot of false starts.
Freeney is going to come into that game thinking he will run all over dbrick and our o line. Dbrick will surprise him.
Freeney will also come into the game banged up. He has leg injuries which will limit his speed. The Jets pass protection has been awesome all year long, it's the run blocking and the runningbacks that need to straighten up. The only way you can pass block is as a unit. That's why these one on one matches Ogden vs. Freeney, often pan out in the ends favor because a defensive rusher will always have the upper hand, because they have the element of surprise.
I'm cautiously optimistic about D'brick's chances. I think that he may be one of the better pass blocking LT's in the league right now.
For me, its difficult to assess individual o-lineman. Is anyone able to break down Bricks performance so far?
I think thats the key matchup-if D'brick wins and Penny has time to throw the ball we have a chance. If he cant handle him? No shot
I can see D'Brick overpowered maybe, but theres no way I see him lose to just a speed rusher. I think advantage Brick here.
I had to read through 6 posts of crap before I came upon an intelligent, informed opinion. Freeney is banged up and has been having an extremely down year for him. I'm actually pretty sure he didn't even play last week and so far has gotten 1 tackle and 1 assist. At this point we should be more worried about Robert Mathis.
freeney is a pure athlete, but that buttocks injury he has (peyton, what has daddy told you about injuring people's buttocks'?) may hamper him juuuuust enough for brick to handle him...i say it's a wash, and this may also be a result of askew, ryan, or another running back helping to block him, even if its only a chip
He just better watch that wicked spin move Freeny does. I hope that if he does allow a sack people arent calling Ferguson a bust or blah blah. Freeney is the best pass rushing DE in the game and this is Bricks fourth GAME into his rookie year. As long as he doesnt get Pennington killed Im happy.
If Brick can get a handle on Freeney's wicked spin move, which is basically his entire arsenal, he will do well against him. It might take him at least a quarter to figure it out, though. I think Brick gives up a sack or two on Sunday.
At this stage a player like Seymour, Trevor Pryce, or Strahan scares me more than Freeney does for Brick. Brick's strength is extremely quick feet and a long wingspan for recovery. Therefore freeney is a good match up for him as he will be able to match the rush to the corner w/ his feet and the spin move will be countered by Brick's long arms..which will give CP plenty of time to release the ball. Brick gets better w/ every passing week and hopfully this will be no exception.
Remember just 2 weeks ago Penny was running for his Life against the Pats. The Rookies are still rookies and will make mistakes. I just hope it's not too costly. We need a TE on that side and also need to run right at him
