Defense Wilkerson Harrison Richarson Pace/Draft ----- Davis Harris -------- Coples Milliner ---------------------------------------------------------------- Walls/Wilson/Draft Allen ------ Landry Offense Ferguson Winters/Draft Mangold Colon Giacomini Draft/Nelsen/Hill ------------------------ Cumberland/Draft ------------------------------------------------------------- Kerley --------------------------- Decker Smith Ivory It seems we have 4 big holes to fill in the draft or through free agency still. We are in decent shape but still needs some work. Hopefully Idzik can hit a few home runs and give Rex and Marty some new toys.
i thought we draft bpa irregardless of position? if thats the case then the holes need to be filled in free agency.
I'm nervous about the corners...Milliner needs to step up his game for being such a high draft pick. We get a decent veteran QB would help too.
This roster is still in the bottom 10 in the league talent wise we have a lot more then 4 holes. We need two solid safteys,a cb,another wr or two ,a te and a real punt returner its not even funny anymore
in terms of the linebacker situation. isnt Antwan Barnes coming back? he can rotate with pace or coples
Yea as far as I remeber he signed a two or 3 year deal I like Barnes to he looked good before he got hurt
Omg, what a bottom 10 roster. We have so many more holes than we thought. I thought this was so funny before. It's not even funny now.
I agree with the op's list of guys that we need for next season. Below I'm gonna try to outline our needs for both the short and long term. On Defense: Long term we're going to need another olb to play opposite of coples, who I hope takes it to the next level this season. Last year was his 1st at olb and he missed the 1st few games due to injury. He had a decent sack number at 4.5, and I remember him totally blowing up the reverse for a loss in the new orleans game on a 4th and short. But in time I think he'll turn out just fine at olb, but that still means we need another starter long term at the other olb position. We need to find a long term replacement for Harris, as I don't see him finishing up his current contract with the Jets. He'll probably be cut next season to free up cap space, but it'd be good to have his replacement on the roster this year like we did with Davis and Bart Scott. That way the rookie can learn without being thrown to the wolves. At corner we're gonna need 2 long term replacements. One for the outside and the other for the slot. I don't see us bringing Wilson back, so that leaves 2 holes at cb that we have to fill for the long term. In order to field the best defense this year we really need another cb to play the outside asap. I don't see Dee being ready to handle #1 cb duty yet, no matter where he was drafted or how good his final 4 games were. Bringing Cro back on a one year deal would be the best move for 2014 at this point. At safety, Allen could be one of the guys that we talk about, a late round draft pick that turned into a starter. He seems to be able to cover te's one on one decently, but his talents are displayed best when he's in the box being an extra hat to stop the run. I think we'll be fine with him as one of our safeties, but remember Rex likes to play 3 safeties at a time. We need a ball hawking free safety to pay center field for us. That's a need for today as well as a long term need. The other 2 safeties can work with Landry and Allen for this season, but long term we'll have to look to replace Landry and unless we can do that with Bush, we would need to spend another draft pick on a safety. So we need one fs asap/long term, and another long term safety to replace Landry when his contract gets to 2015. So to sum up on defense we need 2 replacements asap for 2014 (corner and fs), and 4 replacements for the long term (olb, ilb, corner, and safety). On Offense: I'm ok with Brick for the next few years as long as his play doesn't diminish. He was never the best run blocker, but what we pay him for is to protect our qb's blind side. Rt is another story, as the guy we signed from Seattle, Breno Giacomini is already in his thirties. So we're gonna eventually need a replacement at rt for the long term. Hopefully Oday progresses enough to fight his way into the starting line up. That would be ideal otherwise we need to eventually draft a rt to replace Breno. At guard I'm ok with Winters getting another year to prove himself. He had a shakey 2013, but what can u expect from a 3rd round rookie bring thrown into a starting spot. I'd leave this one blank, maybe we need a replacement long term if he stinks it up this season, or maybe he takes his game to the next level this season and he doesn't need to be replaced at all. It's still too early to tell. At rg we need to find a long term replacement for Colon. He's a great leader but there's no way he's on the team come 2015. Like Oday, lets hope Campbell can challenge for the starting rg spot once Colon leaves or even better this year, otherwise we need to draft his replacement. At center I think we're fine with Mangold for the next few years as long as like Brick his play doesn't diminish. I just hope we don't waste Brick and Mangold's last few productive seasons waiting on draft picks to develope. At wr we got Decker, Kerley, and Nelson so all we need is one more wr to play opposite Decker. That's both a short and a long term need for the Jets. At Te it's the same story, we need a starter for 2014 and beyond. I like a few players in this draft class starting with Ebron. What we really need is a difference maker that can run up the seam and get receptions for chunks of yardage. We can always bring in a 6th lineman to help with the blocking. At running back I think that we're ok for the short run. Ivory, Powell, and assuming everything works out with law, Goodson. We have a pretty good three-headed monster back there and with all the other holes, it just doesn't make sense to waste a draft pick on a rb in this years draft. At fullback we have Bohaon entering his 2nd year. Hopefully he progresses next season as he didn't really have the best season last year. I think we might have to find a long term replacement soon for fb if Bohanon doesn't improve his play. And finally qb. We have Geno penciled in to start this season. I think he deserves this whole year with new weapons to see if he can be the qb of the future. So as of right now we just don't know if Geno is the long term answer or not. We might have to replace Geno and start the search for a franchise qb all over again. And the backup qb is the most confusing position on the team. As of right now it's still Sanchez, so who knows what's gonna happen there. If we restructure Mark and he stays here then we don't need to draft a backup qb. He would be a decent backup in the nfl, but with him staying here it would definitely create a qb controversy in training camp and through the season. If Mark is here and Geno has a bad game I can already see how ugly it will get. So I think that eventually Mark will be cut, it's the only move that makes sense. So I'd look to draft a qb in the later rounds that has the potential to grow into a legit backup qb option for the long term. So to sum up on offense we need 3 guys for immediate help (wr, te, and backup qb) and another 3 holes that will have to eventually be filled, (rg, rt, and fb). And the million dollar question is whether Geno is our qb of the future, but the only way to find out is to have him play all of 2014.
We will not contend for the division unless Brady and a few other Patriots get hurt. Our only hope is to contend for a wildcard.
If we pick up a talented wr, te, and cb in the draft I think we can be very competitive IF Geno's play improves. He has to cut down on his turnovers and sacks. Having better players to throw to and a year under his belt should help. But this season we'll only go as far as Geno can take us.
awful post. New England is exposed. They are not nearly at the height of their once dynasty. The Jets should have beat them twice last season with a complete new cast of characters that were projected to only win 3 games by sports writers/"experts". The Jets are not nearly as bad as people like you think. Our running game worked, Geno can run too, saw screen passes for the first time in forever, some penalties killed us as always, young inexperienced players, the team stepped up and knocked out 8. Our Receiver core is greatly enhanced by the addition of only one player haha Holmes, blew. Kerley was our lead role in the passing game, that's tough and he was instrumental in just about every win. New, "Mr. 3rd down". We need one more big receiver, production guy, workmen. We need a tight end. We need a corner. Not nearly as bad as other teams. The Jets should make a move for Edleman, it's fun to play the game of "Fuck you" with New England. You're a weak fan if you don't think this team can compete for the division. It's right there to be had. Get Edleman, who is Brady throwing to this year??
I missed it. Good for him, I look forward to dangerous routes over the middle. The pats are beatable. The division is wide open. There isn't any reason why the Jets aren't at the top come end of the season. A few pieces away. Last years draft was one of our best. Build on that this year, we have a hungry contender. Get those snacks baby!
