Move Sean Ryan to FB and start Houston at RB with leon washington splitting carries. The two plays that Houston was in at rb with sean ryan blocking for him resulted in a nice 5 yard run followed by a houston TD. Houston looked like an agressive RB on those two plays and seemed very determined.

Barlow is doing fine and is gettig better. I am satisfied that we are making progress given what we have to work with.

Granted, I do not think there is anyone who has clearly distinguished themselves in terms of our long-term plans, but all in all, we are getting better. Plus, we have been playing against some pretty good run defenses so far this year.

The best of our running is yet to come.

BJ Askew is a waste of space out there. He cant block anyone, and is one of the reason we have had trouble running. Boy do I miss Jerald Sowell.

I could certainly see Sean Ryan at FB.

Definitely. On the plays he was in at fullback, he picked up all the right blocks. Perfect example of an h-back even though he doesnt have much impact at the tight end position. I think he's gonna see more time at fullback next week.

I'm in total agreement with this. We have to deal with what we have; Barlow has been getting progressively better; and Houston and Washington have shown good things. As the President would say, we have to stay the course.

Sean Ryan did look good blocking for us at the goal line, but if thats the case he is certainly not 'new', we just need to get him more reps at FB.

Ryan did a great job on blocking, not only on those runs with Houston but when he motions in front of the DE and takes him 1on1 leaving the tackle to block someone else. Very nice thing we stumbled on here.

Another thing we can do is swap Blaylock for Tutt on the PS...or trading Blaylock for a pick outright.

Our FB's are terrible. Can't block, can't catch. Something's gotta be done.

When I said Ryan could be a good move to fullback a week ago people jumped all over me.

Again though, please stop acting like Houston is the best thing we have had in our backfield since Curtis was 100%. He has proven exactly nothing. Yes, he got good blocking on both of his carries. He also fell forward into the endzone for his score. Barlow is running hard on every play. Give him some decent blocking, and he will break a few nice runs. Washington showed more so far than Houston.

Leon has shown some excellent moves but Houston is the one I want in the red zone. Leon seems like more of a pass-catching RB. I don't have a problem with Barlow but he doesn't seem to bring the same spark to the offense.

    Just The Guy For Us

I'm really hoping that nest year we draft Brian Leonard out of Rutgers. I think he's definitely worth a second round pick. The kid has great hands, can carry the ball like a HB and can block! He's a great talent, and anyone interested in seeing him play watch the Rutgers-USF game on ESPN on Friday night.....when the #23 ranked Scarlet Knights go to 5-0!!!! :drunk:

    ^^ i agree leonards a beast.

i also think ryan is way to big to be a fb. he might be a good blocker but when your 6-5 its hard to get leverage against a lb. but i could be wrong.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me what Houston brings to the table that has people so enamored.

Is it his performance last year against teams who didn't take us seriously any longer? If so, then Bollinger should be an All-Pro.

Is it the two plays on Sunday, where he had better blocking than anyone else so far this year?

Is it the TD Sunday? The one where he had a guy hanging on to his ankles, then two guys hit him in the back to knock him forward over the goaline?

Barlow is the only guy on the team with a carry for more than 5 yards, and he's hit 8 yard runs twice.

Now I am ready and willing to listen to an argument in favor of Houston, but so far, none has been made. My eyes have not told me he has anything to bring to the table.

IMO, Barlow is the only RB we have. Washington is a great threat in the passing attack, but without a good blocking FB in there, it scares me when Washington is in. If Houston has something, then I am all for it. Until I see something to change my mind though, Barlow is the guy I want carrying the ball.

askew is awful, can't block well, hasn't shown ability to catch, hasn't shown any significant running ability. will prob be cut after the season.

ryan has shown excellent blocking. playing as a true FB or h-back would be intriguing.

yet another smart man...sad that he is getting ZERO pt on tampa bay...even doug jolley had a reception sunday

  20. The problem is there just arent that many blocking FB's out there. Many teams are in the same boat we are and the philosophy is..if you cant a true bruiser..get somebody who can contribute as a reciever...that's what we're seeing w/ Askew.

I thought when we brought Hilton back, the idea was to use more 2 te sets rather than an FB..but that has yet to be the case.
