I've never understood what Sharpe brought to the table. He sounded like an illiterate moron, couldn't understand half of the things he said. _
Watching Marino was always interesting. He seemed to have a chip on his shoulder a lot of the time but he never leaned into anybody taking the other side of the argument. Sharpe was ok but nothing special. I always have trouble figuring out whether an announcer/commentator is doing a good job because I don't know what his network wants from him. They have to sell to all the fans and with a few exceptions, like John Madden, nobody is a perfect fit for 90% of the people watching. Rex would have been that perfect fit for most people.
I didn't mind either. I thought the CBS panel was waaaay better than Fox.... don't really give a squirt that theyre gone though. Bart Scott would be a natural in that role, he's actually pretty well spoken when he's not screaming.
TBH I dont even watch these pregame shows as much anymore. I used to watch them all the time but I realized that I dont need hear these guys opinions on what they think about the up coming game. Sure they have credibility but they have all proven that their "guess" is as good as anyone elses. Thats all what it is, when you get guys like Cowher saying the Jets have "no chance" in a playoff game, thats when you know you have heard enough. IDC how long he coached, his opinion is really no better than anyone elses, id much rather read someone's opinion on this forum and be able to argue with them than listen to these guys who think they know everything because they were a part of this league.
Glad to see Marino gone. The guy never had a strong opinion in 10+ years on that show. He was always so cliche and neutral in his commentary, it was boring. Shannon Sharpe at least livened up the show a bit with his eccentric personality. Couldn't understand what he was saying half the time but he was still a hoot. If anyone wants to see a horrible analyst listen to Sterling Sharpe. He literally screams every time he speaks on air, it's painful. I remember when ESPN had him, must be 10 years ago now on Countdown and he was so tough to listen to.
Shannon was the Charles Barkley of the crew and he will be missed. IMO you need guys like him. He always kept it real from the Patriots bs to riely cooper. Always having a 'yes' man is boring. Marino demise was obvious after his fling with an employee. Marino never clicked and the coach should of also received the boot. Sent from my LG-LS720 using Tapatalk
Marino was only there for credibility. Also I really dont think Gonzalez is going to fit in to well. CBS will try and pull Manning in, because no one is going to tune into to listen to Cowher. Boomer is pretty good but its only Boomer. If they put Adam Schein in I will NEVER even watch for a second, (not that I watch anyway), if Bart Scott is in, I might tune in once.
I am surprised they got rid of Marino...But watch him end up back with the Dolphins in some capacity...Maybe in a role similar to Elway. Sharpe was replaceable. Swapping him for Tony was a win.
it's official w/ Bart http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...-scott-joins-cbs-sports-the-nfl-today-in-2014
