Is Geno smart enough? I don't think so. He is as dumb as a fucking doorknob - that's my take. Wilson didn't turn the ball over at will a la Geno. Nor did he have a streak of multiple games where he had less than 10 completions in an entire GAME. Not when your WR coach is Sanjay Lal. I have no confidence in this WR corp becoming anything useful. It takes a true stallion to stand out as THE bell cow of a running back, a la Marshawn Lynch. Other than that, the ground game follows the usual formula: 50% from the backs, and 50% from the OL. Jets OL is in ruin. Don't expect anything better if Jets somehow get another Ivory clone. Barry Sanders in his prime could save this run game - anything short of that? Just pray to god something good come out of it. The funny thing is, Carroll never did anything 'imaginative' with his players. Ryan was doing that all the time. The stark difference is here: Ryan almost always HAD TO. Carroll never needed to. See the point? In terms of personnel, Jets D can go toes to toes only at DL. LBs, CBs and Safeties? It's not even a fair question to ask. Rome wasn't built in a day - if Jets can keep getting starters from the first 4-5 rounds each year, Jets will get there in due time as well.
The Jets need two very good safeties to get where the Seahawks are. Thomas and Chancellor glue the backend of that defense together. That's where the no YAC comes from.
Yes, agree but it's almost impossible to have a secondary as good as the Seahawks have. A more reasonable goal is to improve our secondary to a point where our overall defense is as good if not better than Seattle. Seattle has a weak offense. The 49ers dominated them most that game. A lucky 4-7 TD saved them. Their D and special teams did the rest. We're not that far away from the Hawks. Upgrade that secondary, run more and get a QB who manages the game and doesn't turnover the ball.
Two good safeties AND faster and more athletic LBs. I don't think Jets LB could make the interception on either of the picks.
Demario Davis is extremely fast and athletic and swarms to the ball. I cannot say the same for the rest of the linebacker corps. They need to address linebacker somewhere in this draft, maybe even twice.
Why? Most, if not all, of them were mid-and low-round draft picks. It just takes a better job of scouting, using draft picks, and teaching/coaching/developing players and putting them in the right scheme/position to succeed.
I agree. Dee Ford could be a beast behind our DL. David Harris needs to be replaced with an ILB who can actually do all the things the position requires (drop into coverage, stop the run, and occasionally pressure the QB). Because of his lack of speed, he's bad at the first and last aspects and only above average at the second (stopping the run). He misses making a lot of plays because he can't get to them in time. I'll be happy when he's a backup or no longer on the Jets. He's been a good Jet and done the best he could, I guess, but the reality is that his best just isn't good enough in the middle of the D.
Don't forget we have Barnes coming back and he's quick. Davis & Barnes can both cover. We should still draft an OLB though with one of our 3rd rounders. I'd love to see us sign a FA WR, sign an FA safety, then in the draft go WR, TE, OLB, WR, safety.
