I think it's bullshit. I didn't read the whole article, and I don't deny there's probably an issue in this league with homophobia or whatever and there might be some assholes in the Vikings organization, but he was cut because he was too expensive... not unlike many punters and kickers around the league that got the axe in 2012/2013. He would've made damn near a million more (more than double) of what his replacement made, who had similar production. They just simply made a football decision. This is happening league wide with punters and kickers. He should be happy he had a nice long career compared to the league average.
Kluwe has jumped the shark. the media latched onto him as if he was some rare intellectual specimen in a league of brute idiots. but what was first some perception of social awareness that was unique is just schtick at this point. even his great liberal alma mater UCLA is probably hoping he would shut the fuck up already.
They probably got tired of an overpaid guy at one of the least important positions being an attention whore and creating unnecessary distraction, regardless of what he was an activist for
Dear Kluwe: You got cut because you sucked. Fair and simple. Okay? If your punt never eclipses 40 net yards on average, you are not a good punter to begin with.
Clearly, he was picked on because he's black. Where's Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton when you need them ???
He is not fighting for human rights, he is agendizing a simple football decision. People like him are a shame to the fight for human rights.
Might be a valid argument IF he had gone public about gay rights after being cut, but he was vocal before being cut. Yes I believe in gay rights, I think everyone has an equal right to be miserable in marriage.
Maybe they did get sick of him but if you think it was because he was an overpaid guy at one of the "least important" positions think again. It's why the great (read: consistant) punters have very long careers and can quietly rack up millions before they hang 'em up. Ask any great coach what a great punter is worth.
