Alright let's here what everyone has to say... Offense: H.M. - Bears 5. Giants 4. Chargers 3. Falcons 2. Bengals 1. Colts Defense: HM. - Jacksonville 5. Seahawks 4. Chargers 3. Falcons 2. Ravens 1. Bears
Offense: 1. Colts, 2. Bengals, 3. Chargers, 4. Giants, 5. Falcons, HM Cardinals and Saints Defense: 1. Bears, 2. Ravens, 3. Jacksonville, 4. Steelers, 5. Chargers, HM Vikings and Panthers
I'd put Jacksonville and Pittsburgh over Baltimore because Baltimore has beaten two godawful offenses so far.
Ah, yeah I should have the Steelers on there... well maybe not... they held a mediocre Jags offense to 9 points, but good nevertheless. They let a bad Dolphins offense score what? like 24?.... So top 10 yeah, top 5 nope.
Jaguars don't have a mediocre offense. They have 3 tall WR's that are a nightmare to cover, and Fred Taylor right now is healthy. Go ahead and spin it how you want.
Raiders are currently number 10 in defense, and they should be moving up as the defense is only going to get better as season goes on. Raiders Defense and special teams are top notch. Now they just need to get the offense up to par.
If they get the offense "up to par" the defense will go down in the rankings. You have to be careful when you look at the league's official rankings. The rankings are usually ridiculous. The Jets and Packers were ranked high last year against the pass and they were not good defenses. You need to do a little more work, Joe.
I agree rankings can be very misleading and alot of times it whose you play has an influence. Usually the best defenses are the ones, who play the worst offenses in their division.(sure your stats are going to look good under those circumstances) If you play the top offenses almost every week, its alot harder to be a top five defense. YEs Jets and Packers were rank pretty high against the pass last year(IF you have read my post you know i think Jets secondary is average at best) The reason why Jets were so good against the pass was that teams had so much sucess running on them, that they didn't need to pass. Still with that being said, Raiders defense is very good right now and only going toget alot better as season goes on.(could be alot better with a couple changes) Defense is very young and very fast. Like I said Raiders defense and special teams is playing at a high level. It just the offense has been playing like a high school football team. When it that bad , your not going to win too many games.
The rankings are based on yards gained (offense) and yards allowed (defense). They can be amazingly misleading. The Raiders first two opponents have had big leads in the games and had no impetus to score late in them. Rather, they were in clock killing mode. The Raiders do not really have a good defense. At best it is slightly below average. If the Raiders offense starts doing something positive, the team will be involved in 31-24, 38-30 type games. The defense will give up more yards and will drop in the rankings. Now if the Raiders defense is as good as you claim it is, it might hang around near the 10 spot even if the offense starts playing well. I doubt that because I don't think the defense is very good.
obviously you didn't see either game. Fact is despite Raiders offense struggles, defense kept them in both games very late. Was still a game late and defense kept putting them in very good position to score. Let see http://www.nfl.com/scores/2006/week1 Chargers scored 13 (really 10 as chargers got a first down as Raider player was pushed into Kicker(stuffed them and they had to settle for a FG they made. raiders defense kept giving raiders great field position. They were one score from making it a game. http://www.nfl.com/scores/2006/week2 Raiders defense played very well as Raiders offense put Ravens in very good position. Was 16- 3 for most of the game. Defense like the first game was putting Raiders ofense in good position to make it a game. Fact is you can't turn it over as much as raiders and expect to win. Raiders defense is top notch. Answer this question Mangini speciality is defense. Yet he picked up two players who weren't good enough to make Raiders defense. (B Hamilton and R moore) In fact R moore looks like your best DT. R moore was fifth dt on Raiders. what does that say about your defense. AQgain we will examine this thread later as Raiders defense is very good now and only going to get better as season goes on. Raiders just need there offenjse to be mediocre and they will win alot of games. BTW You can't turn the ball over as much as Raiders have first two games. They should have lost by fifty. Raiders just have to priotect the ball and defense good enough to win a couple games by itself.
The Raiders weren't in either game. They were trailing Baltimore 18-3 after three quarters. I saw bits and pieces of that game. If it was close I would have stayed with that game (there were better choices for me as a Sunday Ticket subscriber).
Yea but Players that weren't good enough to make my defense/roster. They sure were good enough to make jets defense. mangini specialty is defense right? Why would he raid a lousy defense. HMMMMMM Question becomes than, what does it say about Jets defense or lackof.
The Jets defense sucks as well, we have Barton and he is a good player from your roster. You just chose to let him go so you could build up a super offense(how did that offense work out btw?).
