The injury report remained constant from Wednesday for both the Jets and the Bills. To review: Jets ? C Trey Teague (ankle) is doubtful. CB David Barrett (hip), WR Laveranues Coles (calf), WR Tim Dwight (thigh) and LG Pete Kendall (thigh) are questionable. DL Dave Ball (hand), LB Matt Chatham (foot), QB Chad Pennington (calf), S Kerry Rhodes (ankle) and DL Kimo von Oelhoffen (knee) are probable. Coles, Dwight, Kendall, Barrett and Teague have not practiced this week. Bills ? LB Takeo Spikes (hamstring) and S Matt Bowen (shin) are questionable. Neither have practiced this morning. Dwight is an interesting case. Each day, the media is allowed to watch the first 30 minutes of practice, which essentially consists of stretching and special teams work. And each day we see Dwight energetically fielding punts and looking anything but limited. This is at 12:30 p.m. At 4 p.m. the injury reports are handed out and, like clockwork, Dwight is listed as questionable and having not practiced. I finally asked Jets coach Eric Mangini about it today. ``The way that we view it is, it?s criteria set up between (head athletic trainer) John Mellody and (head strength and conditioning coach) Markus Paul and myself as to where they are in terms of rehab, where they are in terms of their ability to do certain core exercises, then where they are in their ability to perform the core football mechanics,?? Mangini said. ``We gauge that throughout practice. Again, it?s a function of getting the work while also being smart and not having a setback here where if you go too quickly it could end up being three to four weeks, where if you do it and measure it, it?s a very thorough procedure, hopefully you can minimize any chance of reinjury.?? OK, so now you have a decent idea of some of the roundabout answers we get here. I wouldn?t dare try to infer anything out of that. However, I can report that the speculation is they?re holding Dwight out until there?s a need, injury or otherwise, for a replacement. That theory might be tested Sunday given Coles? uncertain status.
dwight is fucking awesome return man, just becareful when he is about 2 be tackled by a drugged up punter, i think he fumbles when he does
ill believe it when i see it, people were acting like he is the second coming of chrebet, he isnt close.
Someone posted a Randy lange chat. I think he said basically that he is not hurt any longer and is just waitying for Mangini to activate him.................... at least that is what I thought was the gist. Edit: Here are his actual comments [R44] 8:32 pm: Randy, what is the situation with Tim Dwight? As long time N.F.L. follower, I realize the Jets must really like him, because in the ?Not For Long? league, he?s keeps getting chances, despite his disturbing history of ?nagging injuries??.. I guess what I?m asking, is will the Jets continue to patient if Dwight doesn?t get healthy soon? [RandyLange] 8:34 pm: Yeah, R44, I was thinking about that Dwight history today again and I remember writing that Dwight could be a great little addition to this team if he can stay healthy. But right now, I don?t know how much of Dwight?s being deactivated is his health and how much is the current personnel situation the Jets find themselves in. He has said for two weeks now that he?s ready to return and it?s the coaches? and trainers? call. Mangini said today it?s precautionary to prevent Dwight from suffering a relapse of what we think is a thigh bruise. But at some point I would like to see if Dwight can at least put some zing back in the punt returns (they?re looking a lot like last year?s lifeless group so far) and can add his speed to the offensive mix.
