I would like to see him get more snaps on offense, not just on the goal line. If you have a Bronco Nagurski clone can you really justify leaving him on the bench?
He definitely should be the Defensive Rookie of the Year!!! Either way, the defensive line will be special for many years to come with Richardson, Harrison, Wilkerson, and Coples.
He was great today, the awesome tackle on Cam Newton that stopped that drive, and the touchdown of course. He really drove the Panthers defenders back, and Luke Kuechley didnt look too happy about having to tackle that. However, I don't think we should go too crazy about using him on offense, would hate to see him get injured due to overuse or unfamiliar plays.
agree about time the jets got some studs along the DL. richardson and wilkerson are the cornerstones hope fully for a long time. always hard to keep an entire unit intact for consecutive years in this day and age but at the minimum we need to make the above 2 very happy come contract time.
Yeah that touchdown was sick. This is why Rex needs to stay. He understands the potential of Richardson and isn't afraid. Carolina has the #1 rushing D in the league and he knew we needed a monster to pound through them. It was genius and who knows, maybe Richardson one day will end up playing on the oline. I could see him destroying people up front. He already seems like he can do almost anything.
I love Richardson also which is why I don’t want to see him used this way. Why risk our young talent by having him get creamed running ball on the goalline? If he would have taken a shot to the knee and been injured this thread would be very different. What – we don’t have anyone on offense that can punch it in from the one yard line? That move was a cross between desperation and risking our future so the carnival could come to town.
Richardson getting some love from SI.com: Unanimous pick for Defensive Rookie of the Year among their writers, and even more impressively, in their All-Pro selection, the writer selects Sheldon Richardson as one of the two starting 3-4 DEs in the entire league, alongside JJ Watt (and above MoWilk). I love Richardson and all, but this might be a bit too high. I can't post the links because of my post count (this forum seems way too restrictive in that, can't do anything until you've been posting for a long time), but just go to their website, it's on the front page.
Defensive ROY for sure -- no question about it. The way he came on and Mo Wilk slipped a little at the end, I can see him being graded out higher for the season than Big Mo.
He was someone I watched in college and wanted the Jets to draft. So glad it happened. He will be even better next year.
