Actions that do not constitute pass interference include but are not limited to: (a) Incidental contact by a defender’s hands, arms, or body when both players are competing for the ball, or neither player is looking for the ball. If there is any question whether contact is incidental, the ruling shall be no interference. (d) Laying a hand on a receiver that does not restrict the receiver in an attempt to make a play on the ball. If anything the receiver put his arm out to gain some room first and that would make it offensive pass interference if you are trying to say the little hand fighting is actually interference.
Wouldn't that make it 'classy' bullshit, since we're talking the Patriots? Now: Kraft banging a chic who's 40 yrs. younger than him, Alfonzo Dennard assaulting a cop, harboring a murderer on their team -- that's anything but bullshit. just sayin' .....
strange watched ESP-NE today about a dozen times and saw highlights of the Cheating Scumbag's "Magnificent comeback win" but for some reason not one of those highlights included the Patriots touching their onside kick before it had crossed the required 10 yards, the illegal pick or the completely incorrect and inexcusable PI penalty that handed them another undeserved win -- at least their third of the season -- Jets at home (Edelman fumble and Gates TD - neither called correctly) New Orleans (Solder bulldogging holding and tackle of a DE on the final play -not called) and yesterday's completely heinous PI call handing them the win
the hell it is. You can be a pretty damn good team when your qb knows he will get 15 yards if the D even looks at him funny. And not as much now,or the last 2 or 3 years, but that Oline got away with so much fucking holding it should have ruined the sport. A friend back in NY was into game tape analyzing, and had a load of game film on the Pats Oline holding.
a) it was not incidental, he pulled his shoulder back d) he did more than "laying a hand" on a receiver. Hand fighting does not include the receivers shoulder. Again, I agree the wrong call was made, but 5 yards probably doesn't change the outcome.
The inferiority complex that some people on this board have is incredible. I'm sure it makes you feel better to tear down any success from your "rival", but it doesn't change the outcome. Get over it. Bad calls happen against every team and benefit every team. You can look at the tapes of any game and find calls against both teams that are missed. If you go in trying to find it, you will.
I don't expect pats fans to admit to it or even see it,but fans of every other teams feel the same way,and players have called them out over the years. The pats are a "priviledged" team. Its evident every time Brady throws a tantrum because some one touched him.
Fans/players of other teams are jealous of the Patriots success. Belichick's personality and Brady's lifestyle don't help their cause for sure. Having said that, the longevity of sustained success hasn't been seen since the 49ers. It's also quite possible that we may never see this amount of success again due to the salary cap rules and free agency. The jealousy is merited, noted, and appreciated. Carry on.
Ty Law, Troy Brown, Mike Pereira, Steve Tasker comments ranged from terrible call and horrible call to "No, that definitely was not pass interference" but I don't expect you admit it. I am not going to dwell on it since I know you will keep claiming it was the "right call, just called 5 yds too late" but I think one newspaper summed it up perfectly when they said "The Browns were flagged for interfering with a Pats victory"
The refs caused Welker to fumble in the DEN/NE game, recovered the onside kick for NE, made a 50 yard FG against CLE, made 2 50+ FG in the HOU game, threw/caught TD passes late in the game? The area where the Pats and other teams with top QBs get a slight advantage is roughing the passer calls, because it is clear the star QBs are protected better than than the non star ones like Brees a few games ago. But that isn't a Pats only thing.
No not really. Nobody is jealous of you guys anymore. Most people dislike this type of attitude from fans when in "what have you done for me recently league" they haven't won the SB in 10 years. It's like when Yankees fans like myself in 2006 where talking about the glory days of 4 WS and how we had 26 WS at the time. Nobody cared. Same with you guys. Your run from 2001-2004 was great and all, but since then, a consistent playoff team that loses to worse teams in the playoffs. The annoying part is that announcers and fans like yourself treat yourselves like your the class of the NFL when in reality your in top the class of teams in the NFL, but not the only top team/franchise anymore. Oh and the whining of your QB is annoying of course in a league that's already made for the QB. But again that isn't Patriots specific, most fans hate any whining QB or players in any sport.
Jets and Phins fans are so damn jealous of the Patriots it isn't even funny. Always crying about this type of shit. The Ravens were whining about it too before they won the SB
However they missed the RB getting plowed on the play and the reason he wasn't within a yard of the ball was because he got bulldozed on the play.
Dumstein, huh? Ahhh the tuck rule was called allowing the JETS to maintain possession in a game against, guess who? The PATRIOTS earlier THAT season
Here's one for the conspiracy theorists.. Will make your blood boil: 1st Downs GAINED by Penalty (New England Patriots' Team Ranking) 2013 - 1st 2012 - 3rd(tied) 2011 - 5th(tied) 2010 - 12th - here's your anomaly. musta been a bad year (sarcasm) 2009 - 1st 2008 - 3rd 2007 - 5th (tied) 2006 - 5th (tied) 7 of the 8 years in the top five including 2 years as number 1. What is it that makes these teams commit so many costly penalties against them??? Hmmm.....
that play wasn't to the Brady play. The rule was dumb but they made the right call. You still had to go down and tie it then win in OT. NE earned the win.
The PI call was pretty screwed up. I felt there was holding or interference around the 7-8 yard line and no interference after that, yet they placed the ball on the 1 meaning it was called as end zone interference. So apparently the guy missed one call and made a bogus call after that
Any idea what percentage of each team's overall first downs were awarded by penalty? Or what the numbers are relative to the number of possessions? Seems those would be more telling stats. If you're in the top five in overall first downs each year, along with possessions and number of offensive plays run, then it would make a lot of sense for the penalty numbers to line up accordingly. You're getting more overall chances, so there is a correlation between number of plays and number of penalties called. For example, looking this up for 2013, NE has 304 first downs (ranks 3rd). 33 of those have come via penalties. The numbers vary but teams like Tampa (224 overall first downs, 29 via penalties) and Jacksonville (215/22) actually have similar percentages. Other teams, like Buffalo (239/34) are even higher. (And the Bills are now #1 in this category after last weekend, not the Patriots.) For the record, I thought the PI call was weak. But I also think the Patriots were going to punch it in anyway. They left 35 seconds on the clock and that nearly burned them when Cleveland drove down for that 58 yard FG attempt.
I'm a little surprised to see that, but I think it points to a lot of defensive holding calls, which is because NE throws the ball so much and so successfully. Watching them regularly, their receivers get held a lot and most of them aren't called to be honest. They don't draw many PI calls at all. I don't see this stat as very informative.
I'm not so sure that's relevant. If you are getting first downs via penalty - then you are definitely getting more plays as well. It goes both ways. If you pull in what percentage of first downs are coming on penalties, then you are just simply dragging in crappy offenses for the purpose of muddling statistics... In other words, of course New England is going to have a lot of plays. They have a great offense. But the fact of the matter is they are getting, statistically, more 1st downs than most* via penalty. If I correlate the penalty numbers to their total number of first downs, all I'm doing is showing that they take advantage of those penalties better than most* as well....credit to them for that I guess, but that doesn't do anything but show they have a good offense - - aided by penalties. I'll take a look and see what I can come up with though.
