Forget Pro Bowlers - other than a kicker and a couple of D-Linemen, does anyone here think there is a Jet player who is in the top ten in the league at their position?

OL? Nope. Running Back? Nope. Receiver? No way. Secondary? Uh, uh. LB's, probably not.

This team is in desperate shape.

I think Harris is playing as a top 10 ILB this season. Mangold may or may not be a top 10 center at this point in his career.

The team is devoid of talent outside of the front 7 on defense and our kicker. Lot of holes to patch up this off season.

I believe there is talent on defense. The problem is that the skill position on offense is not top 30 talent. Rex believes that you win with defense and running the ball but the good teams in the league are passing for 300 yards per game. I think Rex will survive but this flawed thinking of defense and running the ball is antiquated and has got to change.

maybe harris and if you want to rate slot receivers by themselves maybe kerley, maybe. this roster is so devoid of top end talent it is a miracle we got to 5 wins so far. no home run threats, no wr's that can beat man coverage, no cb's that can play cover 0,mediocre safeties that aren't much help, lb's are ok as a whole but no real game changers there. if we had any threats on offense to keep defense honest the field would ipen up so much that 6 points wouldn't feel like an insurmountable lead.
on defense, if the back end could just play the deep ball they wouldn't have to give such a cushion that teams couldn't negate our only strength with quick passes. with average qb play this team is a legit playoff contender with 2 top 10 players.
    1. a top cb. 2012 cro would have allowed us to roll a safety to the other side while still keeping 4 guys up to protect the short passing game
    2. a top wr that demands double teams. anyone that will not let the safeties creep up. a guy who can beat his man on intermediate and short route and be that goto guy when you need a play.
we may have a cb on the roster.maybe cro can find his form again( saying that, i would shut him down now and give that hip a good long rest) or millner can figure it out. i'd say its 50/50 that 1 of those can happen
    2. that wr is not on the roster. we are loaded at positions 3,4 and 5. but that true #1 will have to be drafted.hopefully the board falls right for this.

Come on all you guys who want to lay this on the coach and the rookie. Where are the tools that work?

Haha, what? Ok Mangold and Brick? Ok, accept the 'rep' but: are they really playing at at 'Top 10' level this year?

    TE, no.
    RT, no.
    RG, no.
    LG, no.
    RB, not really.
    WR, of course not.
OB, now you can insert your hahaha's ;-)

    DL, mentioned.
LBs, not Harris, not Davis...not yet anyway imho.
CBs, if you mean Cro's 'talent' ok, but I'm not giving him a 'Top 10' grade based on this year.

STs, Folk ok, Quigley-middle of the pack.

Flight Crew, improving but still outside the 'Top 10'

I think Winslow is a top 10 TE with a good QB.

Possibly Harrison? Harrison has been rated as the best nose tackle in the NFL. He's #1.

Wilkerson, Harrison, Richardson, Harris, Folk, Ferguson are top 10 in the NFL at their position. Davis may be on the border.

Not to worry, quote was an error. Should have been an independent post.

Hey! Where are all the answers from all the guys with all the answers?

Fair enough, but it is the sign of a great chef when he can make a great meal from mediocre morsels. Not everyone gets to select their own groceries like BP wanted to and not everyone can develop the ones they select.

Now this doesn't mean you can turn a bowl of shit into foie gras, but is our roster THAT bad? I'm not sure. It isn't good, but I feel the CS have made a poor effort to maximize their tools. Look at all our penalties this year! Is that the players or the preparation? I'm tired of Rex, so I have my own bias. He is clearly a great DC, but what has he done, objectively, to prove he is a good HC?

rex is so polarizing there is no obejective opinions. you either like him and blame his short comings on lack of talent pointing towards qb production or you hate him and blame him for the lack of offense and qb production. there doesn't seem to be any middle ground here.

I don't agree with the "polarizing" view. Show me the guy who'd be hating on Ryan if the Jets were at 8-4 today.

I'm pretty sure we can get 10 better than Harris or Mangold now and you admit Cromartie and Ferguson don't belong there this year so going back to the OP you really have no reason to think this season should have gone any other way. This is a desperate team. Who's got a chicken salad recipe?

Harris is underrated and is having a really good year.

Brick and Cro may not be top 10 this year but the talent is there and both have been top 10 in recent years. mangold may not be top 3 like usual but he is top 10.
