Obviously Idzik isn't going anywhere. Everyone knew that he was coming into a shitstorm of a situation cap wise and talent wise left behind by Tanny. Most of this team aren't even Idzik's guys. His first draft was a mixed bag. Sheldon Rich was an amazing pick and Milliner was awful. Geno remains to be seen. The only one at this point who warrants being gone is Rex. 5 years is more than ample time to turn the ship in the right direction. If anything, Rex is steering this ship right into the abyss. He's not a good in-game coach at all. He also knows nothing about offense and has proven he can''t be in charge of all 3 phases of a football team.
Mike Tannenbaum never drafted players who didn't excel as rookies? Being a jet fan is so embarassing sometimes.
The Jets lost Belichik for two reasons. First, he was getting paid well to be a coordinator but he wasn't going to get a topflight salary his first year as head coach. Parcells was slated to make quite a bit more than Belichik and the money situation really rankled him. Second, Bob Kraft treated him like a star. He gave him a good contract, far above his proven ability as a head coach, and he told him that he'd be able to bring his own GM/personnel guys along with him to the job. This was a no-brainer for Belichik. He's somebody's lackey on the Jets but he owns the keys to the kingdom on the Pats. It would have taken a weak guy to stay under those circumstances. I hate him for leaving, and doubly so for what happened with the Pats dynasty, but he made the right call given the circumstances in play.
he did but we didn't have so little talent where those guys*like Gholston) had to start right away, did we? They lost BB b/c of BP trying to control BB. he didn't let anyone know he was retiring then found out BB was talking to Kraft and all of a sudden he made the announcement and by contract BB was the HC. Do we forget Keller, Holmes and Braylon? he is HOF caliber, he may not make it(it's hard for a C to make it) but he will be in the discussion. How mant drafted Jets are in that discussion? Klecko? who else?
A ton of guaranteed money committed before the offseason began and the team's second and third picks not immediately contributing well? Fire Idzik. It's not as though the Jets' draft staff was fired AFTER the draft... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Mangold isnt even the best Jets center of all time. There's zero chance he's ever even talked about for the Hall.
he's not, he may not even be 2nd best but he's widely regarded as the best C of his generation so that should help.
Mangold isn't even a top 5 center in his own conference, let alone a top center all-time. Junc you are embarrassing yourself
By anyone paying attention. He isn't great right now but he has a track record of playing at a high level. you embarrass yourself everyday that you wake up. Where did I say he is a top C all time?
this is going to be a sticky situation. i love rex and would like to see him succeed here. however, he can't go in to next season without an extension and this offense looks to be more than a year away from being good enough. giving him a 2 year deal looks like it will put us in the same spot next year.so what do we do. extend him 3 years? not sure rex has earned that much security or if woody has the balls to make that kind of unpopular move.fire him? i,like others, think the odds of a 3 win season are pretty good with a new coach and system next year. i don't know how things could not have worked out any worse for the jets this year. the great wins against the pats and saints look more like a curse now. 3-9 and fighting for the #1 pick would have made things much clearer moving forward. having said that,if i was idzic, i would give rex the 2 year deal and see who shakes out in f.a. at this point its better to dance with the devil you know until you can see for certain which way is up
I said he is HOF caliber b/c he is one of the best C's of his generation. That doesn't mean he is a top C all time, there are plenty of HOFers not in the discussion for best of all time from their position and we drafted a guy who may be the best ever at his position- Revis.
Rex has not done a good job at all the past 2 seasons. He is living on his reputation as a strong defensive mind that gets his guys to play hard all the time. This season alone, the Jets have been "no shows" in at least 4 of their games -- Cincy, Buff, Mia and Balt. Rex did not have them ready to play. He has good personnel on the defensive line but his scheming has been a disaster. He broadcasts to the opposition as to when he will blitz and repeatedly gets burned in doing so. Opposing TE's have killed the Jets under Rex. Rex's defenses have continuously come up small when the team needed a stand. The beleagured Miami offensive line man-hanlded the Jets front yesterday, as the yardage difference indicated. Rex sticks with "his guys" (Scott, Reed) way too long. Rex shows no leadership at all on the offense side of the ball and players have developed poorly (vs draft stock) under his administration. His only input is the occassional "ground and pound" comment that he spits out after a win. He had a window in 2009/2010 when the positives that brought to the table, the personnel and some good fortune all lined up for deep playoff runs. Rex has shown nothing in terms of being the type of coach that would be any good at "buidling" something
he has done an amazing job, look at the offensive talent he has had and we have legitimately been in playoff contention in dec of each year. some players have developed poorly, others have developed very well.
No doubt about it. This is exactly what some of us on this board predicted before the season. The Jets will be just good enough to not get a top 5 pick and then maybe they won't get the top line franchise draft pick they were looking for. I swear this team and franchise can't do anything right. Always stuck in purgatory. It is such an old broken record it's sickening. I don't want anymore band-aids on this team. I'd rather they perform open heart surgery and just replace all of the vital organs and start life anew.
The Jets have replaced 3 head coaches in the last 13 years and watched all 3 of the replacements take the Jets to the playoffs at least once. Maybe it is time to just suck it up for a few years and recognize that you can't patch together a consistent playoff team out of spare parts and the occasional big splurge on a good player or two? Look at what the Bengals have done with Marvin Lewis. They've actually stuck with him long enough that he's managed to put together a team after watching his early efforts crumble when his QB got hurt and the two really good organizations in the division both found QB's. They lived with him through 4-11-1 and 4-12 and now he's looking like he's going to take them to the playoffs for the third year in a row. Something the Jets have never done in their entire history. it's something the Bengals had never done until this year either if they pull it off. This is the Mike Brown Bengals we're talking about.
