I have the weirdest feeling that if we sign this guy, he will do awesome things for us. Leadership in the locker room, experience for the young guys, and just a natural ballhawk in the backfield. We always hear how guys are done until they come in contact with Rex Ryan. I would LOVE this move!! Even if he is not his old self, he still creates a sense of fear being back there when opposing QB's are throwing.
Take it for what its worth, as I have never been one to dish rumors my whole time on this board . Just recieved a text from my buddy. Ed reed is at the jets team doctors office right now. His girl works in the office and sent out the text To him .
If this is true, he's probably undergoing his physical to make sure he's healthy. I bet we sign him by this afternoon.
He would be a good signing - provided he's okay taking a smaller role and being a leader. This defense is very good, but lacks the ability to create turnovers. Ed Reed is a turnover machine and would be a great "centerfielder" in Rex's defense, a role he is used too. I'm not sure if he would be an every down safety anymore though or if he'd be okay just jumping in on passing downs. If he could embrace that role, he could be very successful. He has me a little worried because he has been talking of retirement for many years now, so I question his desire - but playing for his old buddy Rex and given creative control in the defensive backfield might be enough to get him excited again.
That's what I think will help him be more like his old self. He will be on a field full of young guys that he can teach. He will also be with Rex, who he loves as a father. He absolutely LOVED playing under Rex as DC. Imagine now he gets to do that again and this time with Rex as HC, who he has been quoted saying he always wanted in Baltimore. I think this could be a blessing in disguise.
Has anyone heard of this guy? Jake Steinberg @Steiny31 5m The #Jets are close to signing Ed Reed. #StayTuned #nyj
Yea he knows practice squad players and players like Ricky Sapp and touts them to be superstars. He was a big supporter of Damon Harrison He writes for the Jets Blog on SNY, and gets made fun of by the mainstream media. There is a big chance that he is correct.
he was banged up earlier in the season and by the time he got healthy houston was already out of the hunt and playing young guys like keenum and swearinger
he did post this recent:grin: Jake Steinberg @Steiny31 12 Nov No way Ed Reed goes unclaimed through waivers. But I think he's right on this one.
Intangibles friend try to crush other dreams. We only need Ed Reeds shell our defensive unit is great without him
ESPN now saying he will sign with them..per a blast. I'm guessing he will cost us next to nothing too and Houston will be paying the rest of it.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 5m There we go. RT @mortreport: Ed Reed and Jets on verge of agreement, per league sources.
I'm all for this. The worst that happens is that he doesn't contribute and we are back where we were. Can't see us being worse with him.
