The future sure looks bright for our young D-Line. In my opinion, Sheldon Richardson is showing a lot more in his rookie season than Mo Wilkerson did in his first year as a pro. What will they look like once Sheldon's in year-three? I can't wait. Neither can you. Is Sheldon's rookie output being helped by Mo's emergence as star? Is Mo's fantastic season overshadowing what we're getting from our first round pick, Sheldon Richardson? Is Dee Milliner's slow start overshadowing what we're getting from our "other" first round pick? Is it also because "Snacks" has a cool nickname and Sheldon doesn't? I think it's time for some Sheldon love. The kid is going to be a special player.
I'll admit, I wasn't a fan of the pick, since I wanted them to get Eifert, but it's so awesome he's making an immediate impact. Him and Alonso will be neck and neck for DROY. Here's to hoping making the playoffs helps Mo's chances at DPOY
No doubt that Wilkersons emergence is helping Sheldon, but it doesn't matter, since they'll both be on the team for years to come. Sheldon has been very good this year, and I can't wait to see him in a couple years.
Do not get you, they all get plenty of love and Sheldon is not overshadowed by the others. On the contrary, they are a unit and hopefully will rule AFC for years to come. Sons of Anarchy.
I think the three match up nicely together and that's what makes them so effective. They'll only get better with age and I can't wait to see those 50 million hurries turn into 50 million sacks and safeties.
I was wondering if Sheldon would be getting more props if not for the attention Mo and Snacks are getting - especially since he was a very high pick. I do think he's been talked about less than the others. The focus is often on 'busts" or players not meeting the expectations of their draft position. Sheldon's looking like a fantastic pick.
The three of them in a row are as good as any Jets trio on the DL since the 80's. The key guy is Damon Harrison. He's not the best of the three of them but the kind of pressure he's getting up the middle is just very uncommon for a NT. He's doing Kris Jenkins like things for them when he's on the field. Wilkerson is stepping it up again for the second year in a row and he's going to be an All-Pro eventually if he stays healthy. Richardson is a freak who is very hard to handle. I think he might actually be the best of them but he's going to be in Wilkerson's shadow for a long time.
In due time they will. It didn't happen overnight for the NYSE either. If Mo Wilk, Rich and Snacks keep doing what they're doing then they'll cash in on Madison Ave and all be household names.
Sheldon looks better because he has the benefit of playing across from Wilkerson and next to Snacks. That is not to say that Sheldon does not have potential to be the better player down the road but comparing rookie seasons is tough when one guy clearly has a lot more help than the other guy had.
As great as he is expected to be, I would be utterly shocked if he is better than Mo. Don't put on those green colored glasses, Mo was playing on a line with Pouha and DeVito. Decent players in their own right, but Mo and Snaks are among the top 10 D linemen in the entire league. Honestly a legitimate argument can be made for them both to fall in or near the top 5. Sheldon is a good and hopefully soon to be great player, but lots of D-linemen played better than Mo in their rookie years, and he has surpassed nearly all of them by becoming a potential hall-of-famer down the stretch.
yeh i dont see how idzik could look at this team and think they need a coaching overhaul. this team, with mornhinweg here now, is set up to have a good run if they can just get the right talent together. hopefully dunbar stays here for a few more years and this d-line can really grow under him. i think sheldon is playing pretty great for a rookie and hopefully we can expect him to get even better, but if he stays where he is the d-line will still be awesome so its no big deal. i like the direction of this team right now and i think rex has really proven he is as good a coach as any in this league with what he has done so far. he took a team built to win a game away from the superbowl in his first season ever as a head coach, then did it again the next season. the talent pool dried up and we had a couple rocky seasons but the team he has put together in the meantime has a lot of potential and could be great.
The Sack Exchange definitely was able to establish and maintain individual identities but the pecking order was something like this: 1. For knowledgable fans Joe Klecko because he was a really special player in every facet of the game. For casual fans and kids Mark Gastineau was sitting here because of the big sack numbers and the record year. 2. Gastineau or Klecko depending on the seat you were watching from. 3. Marty Lyons and Abdul Salaam, who were just excellent defensive tackles playing in the shadows of two sackers at the moment the NFL recognized the sack as a stat. The reason I think Sheldon Richardson will play in Muhammad Wilkerson's shadow for a while is that Wilkerson has two years experience on him and his development is going to be a step ahead of Richardson's until they're both in their prime. Then things will equal out and I think Richardson is likely to be the greater of the two. Wilkerson is a tremendous athlete and what he brings to his game is the moves of a 295 lb guy in a 315 lb body. That's why he is dominating the way he is. He's very quick for his size and very strong for his level of agility. Richardson is just a freak. He has the moves of a linebacker in a defensive tackles body. If he stays healthy that is going to turn into a monster player in a few years.
I love how Richardson has panned out so far. Anyone on this board who knows me knows that I'm all about the big boys up front, on both sides of the ball. This is where games are won and lost. And right now, I have no problem saying we have, by far, the best DL in the league. Give this group a couple more years together and we could have a defense that is mentioned in tandem with the '85 Bears and 2000 Ravens. It really could be that good. In fact, I expect it will.

I really wanted Star because I wasn't so sure Ellis is the future NT for our team but Im thinking the coaching staff must have known something about Snacks when they were picking Sheldon. The 3 of them are a great combination and they have a great coach in Dunbar. Really love what we have going for our D line.
