Because they have a positive point differential. It's really not hard to understand. I know TGG isn't exacty MENSA, but it's hard to understand why so many here are so vociferously anti-intellectual.

Quit whining you pussies. We've moved up one position in the rankings since last week.

Broncos should be 1 or 2. That alone shows this ranking system is stupid and terrible. Obviously where we are ranked is a joke but it's a Pats writer so who cares? Most rankings I've seen have us in the 12 to 14 range which sounds about right to me.

Yeah here's more explanation behind it.

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=337

Nothing wrong with using it, but creating a power rankings straight from it seems like ignoring all the off the field stuff and schedule remaining for teams. You have to take into account injuries and etc.

It's an interesting idea and usually is applicable very well. The formula I linked to isn't necessarily how the author of the owed rankings used it, but probabley the same theory

EDIT: Yeah I did a quick google and not really sure what formula they use, but if it's Pythagorean it's not a bad strategy to get a baseline. Then you have to adjust to for injuries and etc before turning it into a proper "power rankings". there's nothing wrong with being low in it, IND was ranked much lower than their actual record last year and went 11-5.

I understand that just fine. It's a damn stupid way to rank teams and clearly it doesn't work because the whole list is fucked. Take your snobby attitude and shove it up your ass.

My favorite part is everyone calling the writer out for being from a Boston paper. Do they think he tweaks the formulae every week to maximize New England's ranking?

I don't see what you are complaining about.

He moved us up one spot and we didn't even play this week.

Also, KC should be # 1 but most rankings have them 5th or 6th. At least this guy has them in the top 3.

    Give Tampa some credit.

It's not like we won last week.

The Pats writer didn't give HIS rankings he just printed up the rankings via that formula.

I'd agree that some of the rankings would seem to make the formula more than a bit flawed.

Just because a formula is used does not make the outcome right. The original formula for Coca Cola had cocaine in it.

I find the existing formula addicting enough.

Francesa would have us at 33rd, right behind Alabama. He'd also have Eli up for MVP.

The only reason why I came across this was because I saw someone post it in the Jets Facebook group.

When I originally posted this, I did not realize these power rankings were based off of some formula. However, it's honestly not that accurate, even if you ignore the Jets. The writer should have made a comment saying that the rankings produced by this formula don't reflect his actual opinion.

Since he did not make any comment like that, it's logical that the he agrees with the rankings produced from this formula because otherwise he would never have posted it in the first place.

Like Parcells once said, "you are what your record says you are". The NFL uses won-lost record and not polls and power rankings. Right now the Jets are second place in the AFC East and sixth place in the conference. If they hold or improve these positions, they will be playing in January. Would you rather they finish seventh in the conference, but are respected with a top ten league power ranking?
Stop worrying about what is said/written about the team.

Good for you! Oh and whos much better? Perillo and Hart are usually pretty spot on and very unbiased. Who do you like Felgah and Mahzz?
