As per Rotoworld, the team that claims Ed Reed would have to pay him $412,000 + $62,500 per game.

I'd love for the Jets to sign Ed Reed. But thats just because he is one of my all time favorite players.

Would it be a good signing? Ehh, I mean he might have a little left in the tank. For $400,000 it's probably worth a risk. Couldn't hurt a very average at best secondary.

I would take him as a FA signing, but not worth the waiver claim and all the money he would be owed.

Reed was a top 3 all time FS. He never followed a 'script'. He was always a very talented 'free spirit', roaming when ever and where ever, always reading the QB and 'seeing' the play develop in front of him. No one ever knew where Reed would be, but he was always 'there'.

Kerry Rhodes was the closest thing we ever had to Ed Reed (except Kerry was hesitant to jeopardize his modeling career to take someone's head off or rip the ball out of mid air, except for his one leaping INT along the sidelines, which was amazing).

2009 Reed would have been a PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT fit when Rex introduced the AFCE to the Merry Band of Lunatics. Ahhh...those were the days.

    2014? I really don't know. I'm leaning towards 'pass'.

I'd settle for swapping out the 'Brad Smith Released' thread for the Ed Reed thread.

Holy Moley! Dude made almost a million per week with the Texans. OTOH, Revis is making a million a week with the BUccs, so what can I say.....

More to the point, I get the impression that Reed doesn't have much left in the tank. Still, given our Defensive backfield I would love to have him for the last half of the season. If he came in for vet min and helped improve the backfield we would have a very nice defense here leading up to a playoff run. Can you believe that we are in position to actually talk about this?

Much rather sign him if it means the Pats don't.

Yes, I'm serious. Maybe a bit asinine, but serious.

I'm going to have nightmares about waking up 2 months from now hearing Chris Carter's voice...."That Ed Reed found himself a TIME MACHINE! What are we always saying about Belichick? He gets the most out of every man on his roster. Just a great pickup for the New England Patriots. He makes the whole defense better!"

    So...sign this beast? :\

Take him. He's not his old self, but I don't see how this can hurt and we seem to be a bit thin at safety

    It's not $500k per game. It's $60k per game with a $400k signing bonus

I'm in favor of this. Small hit on this years cap with potential to shore up the secondary. If the Jets actually secure a playoff spot, he will be a big help against the TEs.
