Ok, i love the guy and root for him all the time and will stand by him. He did have a shocking punt that resulted in a NE TD BUT it did not cost us the game, other factors reported here were part to blame also. He is a true professional and knows he fkd up. I believe its good for his development that he now understands the lows associated with the highs he has generated in his young NFL career.

He will bounce back and it was good to also see Nuge make all his kicks too. So now its Nuges turn to show support to Benny.

I actually had my head turned away from the TV and just saw the aftermath but was he under any pressure or not when he made contact???

cheers and head up Benny and the Jets, this team is far better than last year and has the potential to win more than it loses.

Don't worry, I do not think anyone wants Graham kicked off the team. The punt was not the sole reason we lost, but there is a HUGE difference between being down 10-0 and 17-0 at half time. Now, could the defense have stopped them? Certainly, but if he punts it like he did the rest of the game, NE probably doesn't even try to score.

That is precisely the take. I don't want Graham off of the team. He was one of our very, very few bright spots last year. But, he did make an abyssmal error at a very inopertune time. It did put 7 points on the board for the Pats. It did likely mean 10-0 at half time vs. 17-0.

The Jets as a team can not make those kind of mistakes and expect that there will be no price paid. We are not good enough to absorb mistakes against a proven team like NE.

all good points guys and no doubt Ben is running a few extra laps at training but the guy didnt play over 200 games of AFL footy by collapsing over a few mistakes.

If we drafted Graham in the 2nd round and if he didn't play Aussie Rules, there would be people on here wanting him gone.

Graham was on point the whole game other than that punt. It hit off the side of his foot. Mistakes happen. (And it's not like his punt was the only thing that costed us the game). He will do "bounce back" if you want to put it that way...

Grahams fine. He's one of those guys that will beat himself up more so than anyone can give him. He was furious with himself right after his effort.

My fear when I heard that Graham was practicing torpedo/spiral punts at training camp was that they are much more easily shanked than the drop punt style he used last year. I am assuming he is kicking spirals now, as he practiced.

Here is a question for you. Would you rather Graham sticks with last years good old reliable drop/flat punts, which are very consistant(almost unshankable) and accurate and which saw him become a tenth ranked NFL punter
    ...OR...
change to the booming spiral punts that would probably add as much as 10 yards and half a second of hang extra, and put him into the top 1 or 2 punters BUT with the knowledge that maybe he might badly shank 3 or 4punts during the season?

I thought the BIG mistake here was when Penny ran out of bounce to stop the clock on third down before the punt.

Both mistakes, when put together, are what caused the damage.

If Pennington doesn't run out of Bounds, NE has much less time. If Graham doesn't shank the punt, NE runs the ball a couple times.

One shank does not mean rework the whole thing. That situation called for more carry, hence the attempt at a spiral. We were on the 40 so he is kicking from the 25. He can kick 50 - 55 without too much problem. That would have meant that the ball would have come down near the 5. That is what they were playing for. Plus he was likely angling for the sideline for a unreturnable punt. Just an unfortunate play at a bad time in the game.

GH is correct. Shanks happen. It was a shame on the timing, but they happen. I think everyone is reacting here because, for graham, they are much more rare than your average punter.

The kick before the bad one, late in the first half, it was something like 4th and 2, I was hoping for a fake. The team needed a lift, we were at about the 40, it seemed like the perfect time for a fake, maybe Graham could have pulled some of that Aussie shit for two yards. NE called a time out so maybe something was up and they sniffed it out, but I couldn't tell from where we sit.

Brad Smith was in as the up back, and went under center, which is why NE called TO.

I liked Ben's kicks last year since they had a reverse spin and were hard to catch. You know sooner or latter some scat back will drop one and we will win the game b/c of it.

Don't know what to say to this because we were 4-12 last year.

Yes, his punts were hard to catch. I think he still does it, but it is situational.
