C'mon man. Talk about ultimate Hindsight. The guy went in the 3rd round.. Do you know how much of a reach he would have been at pick 9 or 13?
Easily. The guy has extreme talent. I watched him at Baylor a ton last year. You are seeing it now. The kid will be a stud. This team NEEDS offensive playmakers. They have for years but for some some reason, we keep stocking up defensive guys when the offense has been bottom of the league since Rex got here.
Look at the numbers he is putting up now. While it may seem like a reach, he will be a stud. As everyone is seeing now...
That's what scares me....this guy may NOT be that good...he may be a guy who thought he'd be making $50,000 - $60,000 in some job out of college....instead, he lucked out....played on a great team....appeared to be a good CB....and is gonna make a few million dollars the next few years. If he's a 'bust' -- he's better off than 99.9999% of college graduates. Not bad !!!! Except for us.......
He worries me so much, he seems to have zero technique, which is shocking. He gets turned around, he's not confident enough to bump and run and he's not able to compete on jump balls. What do they teach at Alabama? Now, everyone had Milliner as a top 10 pick. They didn't reach. But in hindsight, going Warmack/Richardson or Richardson/Eifert in the first, Geno in the second and Keenan Allen in the 3rd looks pretty good right now
I can see where some people may call it a stretch but look at his numbers by years end if he keeps up his current pace, it would be well worth it. The whole best person available thing is really overrated anyways. It works for some teams but not all the time. This team is in desperate need for offensive playmakers and we draft continue to draft on defense....It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I believe what is missing is his ability to play CB. Maybe he can move to safety because he seems to lack basic instincts you need as a CB.
Dee Milliner looks like an atrocious football player at the moment. Gholston-like in terms of his apparent confusion, overwhelmed-ness, and complete lack of fire. Does this guy even care that he sucks? Reeks of a guy who does not enjoy football. Amazing.
Look, if someone offered YOU a few million to do something you were only OK at, would you say no ??? I think that the best Milliner will be is a #3 defensive back.
I didn't like the pick strictly because of his health issues, and he has clearly been terrible so far. That being said, I'm willing to give him some time to see how he pans out. If he still plays like dog shit through the end of next year, then we can start talking bust, but not before.
Where is the 4.3 speed Milliner is supposed to have? The guy consistently gets burned on deep routes where the receiver has him beat by 5 yards (e.g. Kenbrell Thompkins end zone drop in the 1st NE game) or more. At that point, all Milliner can do is hope the receiver drops the ball.
The big thing for me is that the JETS drafted this guy at #9 because they thought and so many other scouts felt he was a safe BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE pick and would fill a need and be the eventual replacement to Revis, who was drafted at #14 no less. But right now, Milliner doesn't look like he is even a first round corner. I watched the combine and outside from his 40 yard dash, he was average in his drills and displayed stone hands. When the JETS selected him at #9, I think it was because the Rams picked up Austin at #8 and they knew they would draft Richardson at #13 since they had the extra first round pick and probably weren't comfortable drafting him earlier at #9. But the JETS good have been better off drafting Richardson at #9 and Kenny Vaccaro at #13 and I know the crowd would've been booing up a storm draft day but both of these guys are solid rookies.
