I noticed this on the crawl during the SNY postgame and I could barely believe it, so I had to check NFL.com to be sure: Pats on 3rd down: 1/12 (8%) Jets on 3rd down: 11/21 (52%) - and that includes the two third downs we were setting up FG's in OT
defense plays extremely well, but it bothers me how i just know that the jets D needs that ONE stop to seal the game, they won't do it. examples this year are this game and the falcons game. thankfully we won both, but still
The younger, faster new D people are growing nicely into the job. Both on the D-line and the LB's. Love it!!!!!
1/12 on 3rd down? That's crazy. And of those 11 conversions how many were Kerley completions? 6? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
The one thing I've always hated is that it seems like we give up 3rd and long all the time. Not today. I hope one of our non douchebag beat writers looks ate the film and sees how our secondary was. Apart from some early too big cushion given by Milliner, they seem to have played an amazing game today. Pats were running a ton on early downs and we stopped it/slowed it down. Maybe we were overloading the pass d and the font was taking care of business? Id like to see the all 22.
Kerley kicked some ass. But I'll tell you I really liked David Nelson too. I hope we keep him and Josh Cribbs and get rid of Clyde Gates FFS. Kerley, Nelson, Hill, Holmes and Cribbs. I can live with that WR roster.
I don't have the exact numbers, but TOP was something like Jets 40 mins, NE 20 mins. Lets add this win makes Rex Ryan the only HC to beat Belicheck and Brady twice with a rookie QB (Mark/Geno). Why not?: Through 7 games, Geno has better QB stats than Thomas 'The Franchize QB That Every Team Needs To Win' Brady.
I definitely see this point but I also don't like how we haven't closed out games offensively. In our 4 wins, our offense had the ball where 2-3 first downs end the game. We punted every time and ended up with 0 points on those drives. With a 1 point with 3:25 left, the jets offense took off 1:14 off the clock and punted against TB. 0 first downs. With 4:36 left against BUF and a 7 point lead we get 1 first down and take 1:42 off the clock and punt. We then have a 7 point lead with 1:43 left and punt taking 1:13 left off the clock with 0 first downs. With 7:58 left against ATL and a 6 point lead we take off 2:06 time and punt with 0 first downs. With 6:25 left against NE and a 3 point lead we take off 4 minutes. This was our most impressive offensive drive late in a game to ice it, it still ended in a punt and 0 points. Granted the defense hasn't played great late in games, they shut down BUF, got a bad call on them against ATL in my opinion which was a stop, let up a FG to TB and NE. They did comeback and stopped NE in OT though. I just want to see that offense get going and ice a game, would be great to see and big step for the offense that has struggled to do that for a couple years under Rex
Towards the end there it sure would have been nice to see the occasional screen mixed in with the runs and I could hear the ghost of Weeb calling for a draw. They just might have added a couple more conversions.
If we had Goodson we probably would have seen a lot more screens, but Ivory's hands are pretty terrible. He had one bad drop, and earlier in the season we saw him miss some very catchable balls too
TOP was huge for us. I believe we actually had more like 46 min to the Pats 22ish. I forget the exact numbers but I know we had a 2 to 1 TOP advantage which is huge. Great game by the Jets. I had a dream last night they lost in OT after being tied 30-30. I was pleasantly surprised the game turned out to be in our favor in reality. I had the Jets in my Pick 'Em. It feels great to see improvement in our 2nd match up against the Pats for once.
If Jets had Brady at the helm, Jets will be setting the entire league on fire - make no mistake about that. Jets are not 7-0 now - instead 4-3 - BECAUSE of Geno. [Yeah. And the offense.] P.S. I do see Jets failing to make that one stop time and again - and while it irritates me to no end to watch that tomfoolery, I happen to think, what would it be like if Jets D ever had comfortable 2+ possession lead in a consistent manner. If conventional logic means anything, that would mean more chances for interceptions and sacks.
